I’ve recently had Bi-lateral knee replacement and it seems to be taking an age to show any sign of recovery. Does CLL impact on the recovery process. Anyone got a similar experience.
Thanks.

I’ve had two major surgeries. One whilst on watch and wait with 265,000 lymphocyte count and the second after FCR. No effect on my CLL bloods at all.
Oh the surgeries were not linked to CLL in anyway.
Both surgeons knew about my CLL.
Healed quickly and cleanly without any support medication. I was so careful to keep the wounds clean and dry.
Thanks for your response.
Hi Britcom, -
I have a personal (I'm not medically trained) theory that aging is slowing down my ability to recover from everything. Whether CLL contributes to that is unknown.

But the doctors keep telling us that everytime they learn one thing about the immune system, they discover many more things they don't understand.

Healed fine after shoulder surgery. Everyone is different. Age sometimes can make a difference in healing and not CLL.
The soft tissues around my one replaced hip joint have never healed properly - particularly the site where they cut a tendon. I assumed that the CLL might have had something to do with the slow and incomplete healing . It's just about as painful as the original hip movement was.
I had a full hip replacement last December and healed in a jiffy. Was back at work using a walker or cane in a week. I have heard that knee surgery is far worse and slow to rehab. Wishing you the best on getting back to full speed.
Recovery from knee replacement takes a long time. A really long time. When did you have it done?
Hi. First knee was done in January and I’ve just had second knee done last week. I’ve read stories of people walking around after a few days. I’ve had severe pain for weeks now, just beginning to ease but now the second knee is even worse!!!
I had severe pain after my knee replacement surgery. Turns out I tore my quad while trying to get up from the toilet, and three weeks later completely tore the rest of it. This was immediately repaired. If you are having severe pain then it isn't right. Don't let the Doctors imply that you just need to tough it out and it'll heal by itself.
Don't believe anyone's stories about miraculous recovery unless you see it yourself. I'm sorry- hope you start feeling better soon.
If the pain seems unusual you should really see your doctor in case it might be infection. I had two prosthetic joint infections last year, and now have a cement spacer. Seven years after my surgery. Post surgical infections can be acute and develop rapidly, or they can develop more slowly. Please remember, that because of our CLL, our bodies immune system might be slow to react. In the beginning, you might not have swelling, a fever, and your inflammatory markers, CRP and ESR, might be normal. I had what my surgeon described as a raging infection- treatment was delayed because my ER doc could not look past my sed rate and CRP- which both did soar eventually. I'm not trying to be an alarmist, but these infections are not as rare as we would like to believe.
