Hi

have a question for people with CLL who have already had an RNA vaccine (Pfizer and Moderna) or other. have you done a serological test for antibodies in the laboratory? After what time did you do such a test? what was your result of this test?

Greetings from Poland Thank you for your response

This has been asked a lot over recent months. This is probably the best linkhealthunlocked.com/cllsuppo...

This post also has useful information and a video link.

The thing being - while we may get antibodies - as CLLers - they may not be functioning normally. And - T cells - they are part of the story, but less frequently measured. This means of course the antibodies are only part of the picture. If they are low - or absent - T cell function maybe fine and so on.

Some of us will get immunity to Covid - other won't, many will get some. BUT in which group we sit as individuals cannot be tested reliably. Yet.

So - whether we have antibodies or not - at the moment we must all assume our vaccine imparted immunity to Covid may not be that great. Continue Covid safe living till we learn more. I feel we will see some fancy CLL immunity measurement will emerge.

The virologists are on the case!

My antibody test came back negative totally negative...this morning I was sharing the report with my RN friend who had been the spear head of getting the Covid shots into our park....we were in the street discussing the report when a friend of hers jogged by. She called him over and asked me if I would mind sharing my report with him. He is a very high up person with Pfizer and bless his heart he explained the report in terms I was able to grasp. He feels my report could very well be a false negative as he has not see a report such as I receive. Now I got the the Moderna and he is Pfizer but he said both vaccines were produced the same. He says I should get a second check to verify. ....and I am going to do just that. So we shall see....there just maybe a tiny bit of hope but in the end it is what it is. If the send test verifies the first and is so negative perhaps I should ask or antibody checks on all vaccines I receive especially the pneumonias. Food for thought.

I had three negative tests after the Pfizer vaccine. Hoping you get better results! πŸ™πŸ»

At what intervals were the three tests done? Mine were at six weeks and eight weeks after the last Moderna shot.

My second antibody test was a carbon copy of the first....ZERO, I am disappointed as I am sure you were but at least we now know where we stand and what we must do!!! Life is very special!

Sorry to hear it but better to know than be in the dark. You know how to protect yourself and have been doing it well so far....hopefully just a little while longer till they have some solutions for us. πŸ™πŸ»

Yes, I fully agree...it is best to know just where you stand and I feel I am able to deal with most things as long as I know what I am dealing with!

They have tested everything and now want an antibody test after my pneumonia shot that is approaching.

I am very thankful to this community of people who care and share....that is huge!

Test your T cell function. I am assuming your test was for IgG.

They have tested all that can currently be tested. I have also been encouraged to be firs in line for the Fall booster that will be coming according to Pfizer and I will certainly be first in line.

My main concern is that I am due up for pneumonia vaccine that I get every 5 years and they are telling me to have those antibodies checked as well.

I am disappointed but it really doesn’t change my lifestyle on bit as with a compromised immune system you are concerned about all germs not just Covid.

The one vaccine I have had Antibodies checked for is the pneumonia vaccine. (NHS UK)Result I thought was positive, Drs thought equivocal, resulting in a 3rd pneumovax jab. BUT no further Abody check. I was going to challenge that, then Covid hit. So on hold.

More will come to light I am sure for us CLLers, to our advantage, wrt optimisation of our immunities.

BART4 I joined the study that LLS is running. I had my second vaccine 30 days ago and had the blood draw yesterday to test for antibodies. I should have results in a couple weeks! Anxious to know if I got any immunity. Will keep y'all posted.

I joined the LLS study as well. I just received my results 3 weeks after my first shot and had zero antibodies. So distressing. I just got my second shot, so hopefully will pick up something with this one. I felt horrible after both shots, so I was hopeful. Good luck with your results. Please share!

You should be able to get your results a few days after blood draw, on LabCorp Portal.

I had the Moderna vaccine in Jan/Feb. Waited three weeks and had the Spike Protein test labs run. They came back showing a good immunity response. I am aware this is not 100% accurate and doesn’t tell the whole story but was happy to know my immune system did respond.

I had Pfizer and 2 weeks after my second shot I had a lab draw for the Covid 19 spike protein which my CLL specialist requested. 3 days later my results were released and were positive for antibodies. My CLL specialist said the vaccine is doing what it is supposed to do for me. There were no percentages or details on the report provided by the lab (LabCorp)to me.

I have heard of those not on current treatment making antibodies. Have not heard of anyone on current treatment making antibodies. I am in ibrutinib, had a spike test 3 and 8 weeks post second Pfizer, both were negative. Good luck Bart, keeping my fingers crossed for you

I have heard of a few people currently on treatment that made antibodies but I have heard a lot more about people on treatment who don’t have them ;(

My husband joined the LLS study and was tested 3 weeks after his 2nd shot and had a robust spike antibody result. Highly recommend the study, especially if you live near a lab corp.

I have had two antibody tests done. One at 6 weeks after the second Moderna shot and the second 8 weeks after the second shot. ZERO....carbon copies! I am disappointed but not at all surprised but at least I know where I stand and what I have to do. Life is very special!!!

Well, I will copy paste the same quote from Dr. Koffman about the tests that I do for those getting positive test results ...

β€œ...there are no data in CLL patients to suggest that presence of antibodies confers protection, or even lack of antibodies means no immunity.”

Be well and take care.

Panz profile image
Panzβ€’ in reply toKatieBlue

Yes, I am fully aware if Dr. Koffman and Dr. Larry Saltzman quote and it was Dr. Larry Saltzman from the LLS who ordered my testing for a research project they are working on.

I have a pneumonia vaccine coming due shortly and have also been advised to have those antibodies checked just to confirm what I have there.

I am just fine and I really had been warned that herd immunity would be my best bet for protection. As far as any change in my lifestyle that is of no concern of mine as I fear all germs, virus, bacteria and crud of all kind as I have no immune system of my own....I live on IVIG and that keeps me in a very good place

Life is very special and I plan on being around a long time if the Dear Lord wills it. I have been dealing with this for 32 years and I have no issues.

Thank you for your sharing and caring.....that is what this site is all about.
