Does anybody tried or know about raw fish, brie and feta with ibrutinib (or acalabrutinib)?

Mik, with CLL our immune systems are weakened to the point for some, there is need for Neulasta to help raise the levels of Neutrophils which are important for fighting infection causing situations.

Raw fish is not a safe food for CLLers.

Here is are links with information

I don't think raw fish is good for anyone.

Thanks. Cllady. Unfortunately, pasteurized meals may be strict requirement. I did RChop chemo about 15 years ego and it was strict requirement. I don't know about combination of Lymth +ibrutinib. The pasteurized milk product are non-tasty and may be vinegar in mozzarella provide some sort of pasteurization.

Mik, it isn't necessarily that the foods such as raw fish are contraindicated by the medications. It is that you have been on several treatments over the years and your diagnosis is other than CLL, which puts us at a disadvantage in our trying to help you with what little we know even about CLL, let alone your cancer journey which is most likely more different than it is similar.

As our bodies age our immune systems also age and become less potent in the attack against germs and infections, viral and bacterial. Add to that the effect of the treatment medications on our Neutrophils which are front line attackers against the infectious invaders, Then you have a higher possibility of being made really sick when you do not take care with what you eat, because, while you may not feel bad, your immune defenses are not up to par.

Best wishes with your continued health.

I prefer thinly sliced pears and a little balsamic drizzle with my Brie to ibrutinib. 😛

Seriously, I am not aware of any issue with the foods you list and ibrutinib. Ibrutinib has an extensive label you can see online which discusses all foods and meds contraindicated with ibrutinib.

I agree with cllady that the issue with sushi is our weakened immune systems, not ibrutinib. But I think that is something each person has to discuss with their doctors. Not all weakened immune systems are the same, some Cll-ers, particularly in early stage Cll, have very much intact immune systems.

I still eat carpaccio and even make my own ceviche with fresh caught snapper, probably not the best idea. I haven’t discussed it with my doctor one way or the other. If my neutrophils drop, I will most certainly eliminate all undercooked foods.

Thanks Cajujeff. Fresh red snapper and mackerel are my favorite sashimi. I guess in sushi bar they have some fast frozen disinfection procedure to kill parasites and slow bacteria (cfs.gov.hk/english/programm.... I never eat row fish at home.

I’m coming to your place to eat Jeff. You mention dishes I’ve never even heard of but sound delicious! 😊

When I started Ibrutinib, my doctor at MDA didn’t caution me against any of these foods!

I eat at quality sushi restaurants that I trust. Some people might not have eaten sushi prior, and think raw is disgusting or generally dangerous! I personally don’t like Brie, but use lots of feta in my food.

Ask your doctor! We are all different and some people inaccurately add to the DO NOT list .

Thanks CoBubby. I guess nothing is better fresh sashimi that is melted in your mouth. However, real french brie or sheep milk feta are very healthy options two. I guess the question is personal taste and immune system.
