Tumeric, nausea and a racing heart

Hello all....I have been drinking one tea bag of Numi Organic Tumeric Tea daily and I have been taking a 500 mg capsule of tumeric daily. I have been having episodes of my heart racing up to 90 beats per minute and I will sometimes feel nauseous. Has anybody else experienced this? I have an Oncological nutritionist consult coming up in 4 days. I will post the outcome.

Hugs,

Dianne

It doesn’t sound like you are taking an excessive amount Dianne but you may be hyper-sensitive to its effects.

‘Little research has been done on excessive doses of turmeric. A few medical reports of people taking extremely high doses of turmeric suggest it can cause an altered heartbeat. Excessive doses of turmeric may also cause delusion, mild fever, upset stomach or kidney stones. Turmeric may exacerbate gallbladder problems or worsen acid-reflux or heartburn symptoms. Large doses of turmeric may also worsen arthritis symptoms and cause skin rash.’

I suspect your oncologist may suggest stopping it for a while to see if your symptoms ease.

I am taking a 500mg capsule daily and have not had the same experience. I am not drinking the turmeric tea. I do experience occasional diarrhea though.

I can't speak to the research on turmeric, but my CLL specialist told me not to take it while I'm on Imbruvica. I guess it has some blood thinning qualities.

My oncologist told me not to take it i I could avoid because of potential of bleeding (I'm on Ibrutinib). Rheumatologist had recommended it years before. I still take one capsule every other day (or m, w, f) because I'm stubborn and think it is good for me. Drink the tea occasionally. Have not experienced your symptoms to that extent.

I have no idea how to cook with tumeric, or even how to make tumeric tea. Honestly, I never liked Indian food, and haven't grown accustomed to their flavor-ful dishes. Well, I do like saffron in white rice.

Now, i have heard ginger is good for cancer patients. I think it makes the guts move. Or maybe forces taste buds to warm-up.

Ginger is good for nausea. And motion sickness. You will frequently notice people order ginger ale on airplanes and ships for this reason.

Turmeric is used in a number if different cuisines other than Indian so not liking Indian should bit be a problem. As an example check BBC food website for chicken Bastilla from Morocco, which has the bonus of having saffron in it which you say you like.

Enjoy.

I tried a daily dose of Turmeric in a 400 mg capsule, but that gave me raging indigestion. I then tried a Turmeric teabag, which caused me to be sick , so I am assuming this spice is not for me!!
