White stool after kasai

Does any baby experienced white or very pale stools one month after kasai.

My daughter had kasai just one month before and she is taking medication to avoid infection.

And yesterday we noticed that she had a white or pale colour stool. Previously it was bright yellow.

We are in hospital and she is taking antibiotics thru IV.

Let me know if this is something common after 1month of surgery?

hi, just seeking update of the result from the hospital. is your baby fine? i am afraid that pale stool / whitish stool usually is not a good sign before kasai. i experienced my kid had thatpale whitish stool efore kasai but after kasai the stool looked yellowish bright again. for your case, i pray that your baby is jus okay and good.

The blood test shows normal. Waiting for the scan appointment to be Booked.

Is it something which can happen in between without any fever and then go off ?

I couldn't able to find answer for this one anywhere.

If someone knows , let me know.

Blood test and scan looks no infection.

But not sure why the white colour stool is coming.

Please can someone post your reply if you had seen a similar scenario.

We are in hospital for 6 days. No improvement in stool colour. Just the iv antibiotics is going on for 7 days.

Can someone please help me.

Am really worried.

Will the white stool fluctuate to yellow later point of time?

My daughter had a Kasai 8 days ago. On 6th day, she passed white stool and her direct bilirubin skyrocketed from 3.5 to 6.5. No stool infection no blood infection. CT shows no sign of blockage. On 8th day, direct bilirubin came to 4.7 and stool became greenish yellow. We are still waiting for direct bili to come down.

What is the gamma GT level?

For my daughter, it is high (4000)

And still white poop (no infection, scan looks good)

Everyone suspect this may be a cause of white poop.

But her bili count shoot up 10days before (117) and now came down to 95 (day before yesterday).

Our review is after 2 months, hopefully everything will go in the right way.

Miras dad here. Our daughters ggt is 1348 now. Direct bill came down to 3.3 now which is similar to what it was before surgery. What unit are you measuring bili in? Good luck with your kiddo. Hope everything is fine now.

Ours is umol/l

What is the colour of the stool?

Our doctors have told that the raised ggt could be an issue for pale stool.

Where you kid had operation?

OK, then you need to divide my number by .0587 to get your number for bili (in US they use mg per deciliter). Our kid had it at Seattle childrens. Was that total or just direct? Paying for the ggt to come down. All the best.

Hi sameerudeen it can take a while for all symptoms to settle, but any changes should be reported to your medical team. You can get our resources here:
