What is banding?

My daughter is having her third biopsy and she’s having endoscopy ultrasound but it also says banding and I am unsure what this procedure entails wondering if anyone can help me please. Thankyou :)

Hi Sophie, Banding is a treatment for varices. Surgical elastic bands are placed around the varices during an endoscopy.

Varices is when small veins which can become enlarged and swollen due to portal hypertension and can bleed if left untreated.

I hope this answers your question but to set your mind at rest do ask the surgeon or specialist liver nurse to explain the procedure to fully.

Aw Thankyou it does make sense I remember on her last biopsy I had to sign a last minute form for that just in case during surgery they noticed and issues that banding would need to be used but I cudnt remember what they called it. Thankyou very much :)
