Is chromium part of routine 10 yr post liver transplant MOT?

We have had the schedule of appointments for the biopsy, scan etc and chromium included in there wondered if is now a routine thing or likely because some of our son's kidney function tests show abnormalities

Hiya Claire,

Yeah chromium is routine because my daughter has just had her 5 year check at BCH and this was included as routine!!!! :)

Thanks! Set my mind at ease a bit. It's obviously new from 5yrs ago when he had that MOT. Thankfully he is so well that we not really in the loop so much these days with new developments etc! Merry Christmas!

No problem!!! Hope everything goes well for the MOT! Which hospital are you at BTW? I think all hospitals probably have the same protocol to follow regarding post transplant checks! Wish you and your family a happy Xmas and new year also!! Take care xx

We are at BCH too. Seems a lifetime ago that we practically lived there and in doing so became one of the BCH family and knew every minute detail about every possible option of treatment and follow up etc etc, now it's a quick clinic visit every 12 months - and for that we are forever grateful although it is amazing, remarkable and scary to think how things must have moved on in the last 10 years! Take care and thanks for the info, I can cut the Liver Direct Team a break now!

Not linked to this question as such but my daughter is having a live donor transplant 22nd jan at BCH and to here about children doing so well is really nice.

Thanks for that. I always remember our liaison nurse emphasising that the children we saw on the ward were always the poorliest children and that if only we could see the children who were now well we would have a different take on what could be done for us! BCH look after the children so very very well. We truly feel part of the family - always know we will be looked after with the best care possible. We had a rocky start one way and another - our tiny little baby became quite well known for the worst possible reasons and I think is still a bit infamous one way and another. At one stage we feared the very very worst for him, but the team at BCH were an amazing force to be reckoned with and in the last 10 years we have, thankfully, barely seen people who became part of our family for the first 9 months of our son's life. You are in very good hands! Good luck, may 2014 be your year!

I totally agree with Claire, you are in the best possible place at BCH, everyone is just soooo good, I hear about people at the other liver units and always think this is the best! The doctors are REALLY great, my daughters doc is proff Kelly(the best! LOL
