I have had this twice before and I went to A&E, had blood tests and ecg and after a few hours the symptoms had gone and was released, no follow ups. This last one has lasted longer and has started to subside, is it just wind?

I woke up with tight pains in my chest and back, felt sick, was sick, could not lie down, felt that I needed to burp.

Please got to your GP as soon as possible, it sounds very much like angina pains. Ask for an urgent appointment and get your GP to do an ECG - see the remarks by Heart UK to the right of this post.
My other half has had 2 episodes like this, we thought it was just severe indigestion because he does tend to eat late at night and usually something with high fat content ie takeaways when he's away working. I told him to sip a glass of boiled water to bring the wind up just like when my babies had colic, it seemed to worked and he was ok the next day. I never even thought it could be anything like angina.
I agree with Mike262. There are symptoms that are worrying and need investigating as soon as possible. Once you are on medication you will feel more confident. My Mother lived with Angina for 20 years and since then medication has improved dramatically. Also, have you looked to your diet. The sickness and indigestion can also be attributed to eating too late, and fatty food that takes longer to digest and "sits" in the stomach only to reappear when you have an angina attack. Eat a light meal, earlier, and perhaps sleep, slightly raised up in bed, until the angina treatment has become second nature. All the best and keep us informed.
