Finding a home

I'm 29 years old and want to move out of my parents home to gain a little more independence. I don't want to live alone, and seeing as I don't have any friends I don't see me ever living with someone. I've looked into supported living, but that usually caters for elderly people or those with learning disabilities. I don't fit into either of these. I'm really unsure of what to do. I don't want to live at home with my parents until they die. I have a facial disfigurement, mental health issues, a tracheostomy tube to help me breathe and I have a lower immune system so can get quite ill. I do need some support/care but nothing extensive. Can anyone help? Thanks.

Hi Hidden Thanks for sharing with us about your situation. It sounds like you have a clear goal of gaining more independence and I can hear that you have been exploring some options and looking for more specific advice about housing and support options which may be available to you.

Changing Faces cannot endorse any external organisations however I have included some links below to information and organisations which may be able to offer further advice or information.

The NHS has a webpage which provides information about needs assessments and how to access one which I have included here:

nhs.uk/conditions/social-ca...

Citizens advice may also be able to provide some guidance, they have a national phone line (0800 144 8848) and you can also search for your local service on their website and contact them directly. I have included a link to their page on housing below too.

I hope this is of some help.

Take care,

Eva - ChangingFaces
