We are wondering about traveling to Europe to visit my husbands sister, as he is now 4 +1/2 months post Transplant and doing ok. We will ask his consultant first, but wondering if anyone has reccomendations on Travel Insurance /if you need to declare you've had a transplant etc.MT

Edinburgh says no foreign travel for 12 months post t/p. If you go on the Liver Transplant Support Group on Facebook they discuss travel and insurance a fair bit.
Thank you. Ill try having a look. It does feel a bit early to travel, but we just wondered with it visiting relatives if it might be different.Trust your road back from transplant is running smoother now Katie. Its amazing how time inches by, and slowly but subtly milestones are reached.
when I had my T/P the surgeon said 6 months before going to Europe and 12 months before USA so I left it 12 months and then went to both 🤣😂, as far as travel insurance the BLT site has a list of companies to try but it is a matter of contacting each company and getting quotes. This year I was with Avanti last year I was with Stay Sure, good luck.
Thank you, I think we would enjoy it more if we waited, we just wondered if it would be different going to his sisters. We will ask the consultant and look up some companies in the meantime.Atb
Hi, I had my transplant 10.5 months ago. I was told 6 months for Europe and 12 months for USA. My twin lives there and we usually go at least once a year. It took more than 6 months before I could travel as a few complications with liver. I got the go-ahead a few weeks ago and immediately went to test my new liver in Majorca! Just a few days to see if there were any bad effects. All went well so off again at the end of the month. Well, Iv'e got three years of holidays to catch up on! Hope your husband continues to improve.
Thank you! That sounds encouraging. We sure have lots to look forward too 🙂 the consultant said if everything is still looking good next visit to ask again as we will be much closer to 6months! I think it was a gentle reminder that even tho he appears to be doing so well, its still quite precarious at this stage. Its not just about being fit to travel, theres still lots that could knock him sidewise (but hopefully won't). If he could be better by sheer determination he would be but its not quite just down to that is it!!! He also has some broken ribs still not healed - another surprising fact to add to the list. Shows what a huge op it is that you don't even know you have rib damage until a few months down the line😉
hi, when I was looking for travel insurance 6 months post transplant seemed to be the minimum period that they would provide cover. I got travel insurance through my bank account and with the additional medical assessment I pay £126 for 12 months worldwide. I have had quotes from staysure and the cheapest they could offer was £400 for Europe only. You need to declare absolutely everything, so if he is on steroids or hypertension meds etc you need to specify them👍
