Quick question - Uk Travel

Hi all - I know I will find this out as part of my transplant assessment but I’m just curious to know how far away from the hospital you are allowed to be once you are on the list?

I work full time currently and sometimes travel upto 4/5 hours away but I’m guessing I won’t be able to do this once I’m on the transplant list? I realise that I might be too ill to do that level of travelling too.

Thanks!

Hi

In an ideal world no more than a couple of hours but when I’ve wanted a break co-ordinator said no more than 3-4 hours away and they put a note on system stating this but different hospitals might have different guide lines am at addenbrookes

Good luck with your liver journey

Hi Craig it is 2 hours at Leeds 😉

When hubby was listed at Edinburgh they said no more than an hour from home (we are already 100 miles from Edinburgh and on other side of country & they would have arranged ambulance transport for hubby if call came). We also had to notify if we were elsewhere i.e. my folks place for Christmas just in case the call came they could send ambulance to where we were.

Thanks all! I suspected it was no more than 2 hours. Looks like I’m not going to be able to carry on with my job for much longer then 😔

Hope you and your families are all keeping well

Hi Craig, carry on with your job as long as you are able. Speak to your employer with regards to reasonable adjustment to enable you to do so whilst you are on the list. It may mean you need a change of role for that period, but its usually better to be in employment for financial reasons if nothing else both before and after transplant.

Thanks for your advice Kristian! I spoke to my boss about my concerns today and he has been very supportive, and allowing me flexibility to work from home when needed. I’m very lucky in that respect.

Hope you are ok?
