I wondered if anyone has had a Fibroscan result like mine - 349 CAP and 13.9 Kpa ? I’m very overweight but not much of a drinker and really worried the prognosis will be dire - I’ve a long wait before seeing a consultant.
Does anyone know of this is likely to be cirrhosis and irreversible or is there time for me to try and turn it around?
Any advice would be really welcome
- thanks

My FibroScan results in November 2023 were virtually identical to yours. I was told I had Cirrhosis and then sent on my way with no support, which resulted in me being absolutely terrified that I was going to die and paying for a private consultation with a liver specialist. The consultant was lovely and helped reassure me that whilst serious, this is by no means a death sentence. More like ‘you will die with it, not of it’. Now referred back into the NHS and awaiting a Gastroenterology consultation. My recommendation is not to think the worst, do not use Dr. Google - every person’s journey is different. This forum is a great source of support and the resources provided by the British Liver Trust are also super helpful.
I too am very overweight and have made a real effort to eat better and start very gentle exercise. I’ve lost around 4 stone so far with a long way to go. I have good days and bad days where I slip but am not beating myself up, just dusting myself off and getting back on it. The liver is a very resilient and forgiving organ and I figure the best thing to do is try to make manageable incremental changes and improve my overall level of health and activity in a slow and hopefully sustainable manner.
Toby thanks so much for replying - the idea of cirrhosis just seems so awful and it feels like the end of the road but from what your consultant said is feels like there’s a chance to make things better or at least no worse! I’ll hang onto that for now!
Good luck with your plan too and I hope get some encouraging feedback when you see the NHS team
it’s never too late, mine was nearly as high as yours (12.9) was was borderline, I don’t drink so it’s all to do with weight/fatty liver. I’ve lost some weight so I’m hoping my next scan will be better. I have a bowel condition and metabolic syndrome and it’s really hard to lose weight. I did it by calorie counting and took me 2 years to lose 10kg. But any weight loss is good. I put my scales away as I was becoming obsessed weighing twice a day and then being upset. Because of my bowels i struggle with certain healthy foods so my consultant basically said I don’t care what you eat, just eat less of it. So I got fitness pal app and logged every calorie.
