Partners ALP gradually increasing.

Hi all,

My partner is in the interim of moving to NHS after being diagnosed with liver disease on private . He has hemochromatosis and the disease from this. His next appointment isn't until November and his last was in February.

He and myself are worried as we've noticed his ALP has risen in the last year from 91 to 150 which has been gradual. We are in the process of moving house and he won't go to the doctor until an appointment in November.

Can anyone advise if they've had their ALP increase slowly and why this was? His other results have been going down (AST, ALT) into normal or near normal range.

Additionally, he ironically is currently anemic after having too much iron taken and has Angular Cheilitis. He was taking Vit B12 to try and help this but again I'm concerned as he hasn't checked vitamins with docs as not seeing him until November. I don't know whether he'd have low B12 or high as I've read contrasting things. Any insight would be appreciated.

Thank you all. As I've said before I'm battling with trying to support and not cause him to feel frantic, worried and depressed. It is a challenge for all especially between work and general life stresses.

Hello

Test results vary according to both the individual’s whole health and the laboratory analysing the results and should always be interpreted by the user’s own health care professionals.

We suggest talking this through with your partner's own doctor or health care professional, though appreciate there is a wait until the appointment. If you are in the UK and would find it useful to talk things over, our nurse-led helpline is open Monday to Friday from 9am to 3pm on 0800 652 7330 (excluding bank holidays)

We also facilitate a range of virtual support groups for people living with a liver condition (and their families and carers).

If you [are in the UK and] would find it helpful to speak to others with shared experience, you can register to join a group here

Thank you. Yes we are in the UK and I have managed to persuade him to book in some tests on vitamins after being anemic from treatment. I appreciate the details above in case needed.
