A year ago I was diagnosed the NAFLD Cirrhosis to summarise Child Scale A, Meld 7 and well compensated. I was having an endoscopy for something else. Initially was shocked, panicked and experienced a myriad of emotions. I’ve just had a review after a year my first scan, and liver function tests etc. It seems thankfully still at this level.
My main question is I’m based in the Uk / Scotland and I’m planning a few days in the autumn in Madrid, with my husband and daughter I have Diabetes and I’m on insulin had partial knee replacement 2 years ago which I would declare depending how far back they ask 2 back ops in the mix. Can anyone suggest a good travel insurance company to use?
Coming onto this site has been very helpful reading about other people’s experiences etc and also understanding the variation in access to tests etc. On a very basic level one consultant described my condition as well compensated cirrhosis and more recently I was described as having severe liver disease although both wee describing child grade A. .
Any advice on insurance companies would really be appreciated with thanks Mary 😊

No idea Pip, the letter that came back from consultant said MELD I’m new to all this jargon. Thanks for taking the time to reply. Coming on to this site has certainly highlighted to me the differences the different consultants and doctors’ use and the way results are presented. I’ve had to push to get detailed copies of recent LFT and scan report. Find it very reassuring to know I’m not alone in dealing, managing this condition and all the thoughts, feelings and emotions it brings. And when people type about being scared worried etc I certainly have those days. Thankfully I know most of the time on an even keel knowing I’m following the advice given to me.
I was diagnosed with cirrhosis 3 years ago due to Hep C. I go to Greece 4/5 times a year so have an annual policy with Staysure. It costs £40/ month but it’s the gold star cover. Couldn’t tell you what a single trip will cost but Staysure was the cheapest by far.
Thanks Ruby for your post. I have used stay sure in the past to cover my diabetes etc . I don’t plan in going on multiple trips at the moment. This is my first time going abroad in over 3 years. Ironically last trip booked was to Madrid, and the went into lockdown re covid before we did. The flight we were booked on took off but plane had to turn round and come back. Seems a long time ago now 😊
My husband has compensated cirrhosis (thankfully no complications like ascites or varices) plus he has other conditions (atrial fibrillation, hip replacement). He has annual European travel insurance with Staysure too and applying on line was very straightforward. I think the cost was around £365.
