High SGOT LEVEL: Hi I'm 45 yrs old wit... - British Liver Trust
High SGOT LEVEL
Hopefully your doctor is going to order more tests to follow up why your SGOT - a.k.a Aspartate aminotransferase (AST) is raised. It can be elevated in liver inflammation but also when there is muscle damage or potentially issues with other organs (kidneys, heart).
You need follow up to determine what is causing the elevation.
Did you get results for SGPT a.k.a. Alt / Alanine Aminotransferase and GGT?
ALT/SGPT is more liver specific than SGOT/ALT. So if the liver was the issue you might expect SGOT to be elevated too.
More investigation and tests required. If it is liver then having diabetes can be a contributory factor to Non Alcohol Related Fatty Liver Disease (NAFLD) - treatable with good, healthy diet and exercise.
Make sure you ask your doctor plenty of questions and get necessary follow up.
Best wishes.
Katie
Hi thank you very much for the reply. this is super appreciated. Yes SGPT is slightly elevated. 50.49 UL.. and I just started back in the gym so I'm sore allover.. could this be the cause of super high SGOT?? 😔 I wish so.. I'm having whole abdominal UTZ and full hepatitis test tomorrow. I'm praying for the best. But really all this waiting is stressing me out 😭
