High level ALT

Hello everyone . December 30th I was in the hospital with very bad gastroenteritis and when they did bloodtests they found elevated ALT and asked me to retest two weeks later . I did and the level of ALT remained high . I don’t know exactly how much cause they didnt show or told me any number só doctor wants me to have a liver scan and bloodtests again soon but I’m so stressed . I don’t drink at all alcohol and I don’t take any medications never . My eating is very bad I eat a lot of McDonald’s and I don’t excersize or drink water. I gave birth six months ago if that makes any connection . I’m so stressed I can not stop thinking about it

Hi

Welcome to this wonderful forum of brilliant people who will be come your friends. You must have your liver scan and bloods done so that you and your Dr know exactly what's going on. Please start to eat healthily, protein, reduced fat, plenty of fruit and vegetables. This might be hard but it will help you. Drinking no alcohol and having no meds is brilliant. I have Nash with fibrosis caused my meds from my drs over the years. Pm me if you need to. Please take care of yourself Lynne

Hello and welcome!

ALT indicates that your liver is 'under attack' from something. However, you look very young and if you have no other symptoms and don't drink alcohol, it is more likely than not that no long-term damage has been done.

I would have the scan if the doctor recommends it so you can get treated if appropriate. It might be something very little so don't worry too much. Think about is as an opportunity to improve your health and prevent a problem in the future.

All the best!

hi and welcome-don't worry about the scan-if it shows anything then steps can be taken to sort it out. For a starter though start drinking more water and eat less Mcdonalds.....you'll be helping save the planet at the same time....:-)

Hello everyone just updating . Been to the GP today to get my results and was ALT 149 and AST 77 . Both high . But he still says it’s ok we will check again . Doesn’t of course made me feel better. I lost my sleep . I’m back to depression and fear and many other things . Last night I even had a panic attack and I though I was done with this things . The only good is it’s my day 4 of completely new eating habits and excersize. I eat only healthy things I made a big research regarding foods good for liver so I’m doing it strictly and for my excersize I just walk for an hour but it’s something and I feel better. I hope everything will be ok soon cause I’m gonna get crazy 😔

Hi Marizah

Firstly welcome from me too!

Like you I was overweight 2 years ago but my eating wasn't down to eating MacDonald, mine was down to eating to much rich food full of cheeses cream and red meats. I too class myself as a none drinker and like you have raised LFT's.

Over the last 18 months I've managed to loose 3 stone which should really be 4 by now as I've slipped a little of track....naughty me I know.

On the health front my consultant is still trying to find the cause of my raised bloods which I must say have slightly lowered over the last two months but are still above normal. I've under gone 3 CT scans , MRI fibroscan and ultra scans and nothing has been found so you can guess my consultant is still baffled as to the cause of my autoimmune disease!

All I'm going to say is to keep up your excellent healthy eating and exercising up and I'm sure you'll feel much better as time goes on plus your still extremly very young at 31 with a very long happy life to look forward too which many on here would give there right arm for!

I'm a very young fairly fit 68 year old this coming July 1st who going to be taking her very first sky jump for charity on Saturday the 7th of March ! So yes I'm mad too as life's for living 😂

My final word is to grab every little happiness you can and don't dwell on what could lye ahead as it may never happen... think of good things for tomorrow... plan a nice meal, walk somewhere different, arrange to meet up with old friends or family or take up a new hobbie... not everything cost money!

Good luck my friend and I look forward to following your progress.

Love Trish

Hello sweet people .

It’s been 45 days almost I keep my diet exercise and all strictly and I drink a loooot of water .

I had my retesting few days ago and all looked good just i have a fatty liver my doctors said but they still want to refer me to liver specialist soon cause my ALT hasn’t dropped at all . They believe could be from fatty liver but still they want to be sure .

I’m very confused and disappointed. I truly hoped will have a small improvement after all that effort I m doing. Can’t even describe how I feel at the moment .... empty is the word I think 😔

But Marizah you may not have maintained the status quo if you had not been so good - you could indeed have become worse than you are now? So please look on the bright side - you are being taken care of and being referred to a liver specialist - I would take that as a good thing to be happening in your uncertain condition as you are now, because with any luck they probably will be able to get to the bottom of your one high reading 🤞.

So good luck and please be positive 👍.
