It is nearly 2'years since I was admitted to hospital to discover I had decompensated liver disease. Now I am compensated with very good bloods, no meds, and healthy. except my testosterone level . It is constantly high around 40 nmol or approx 1135 :ng/dl .( Has been higher ) I'm 62 male and as far as I know is way way above normal for my age. . Do I need to be worried about anything. I have noticed very clearly that the muscle mass in my biceps is much more than it ever was, this is honestly very true ( I don't do gyms or anything just golf ) . I'm just a bit confused on it to be honest. I'm due a 6 month scan mid March and will try and find out some answers then. Just wondering if similar has happend to others. My fibroscan is currently 36.2
Thanks Paul

High Testosterone isn't usually a symptom associated with cirrhosis - the reverse would be the norm i.e. a lowering of testosterone. This elevation of your testosterone needs investigating and treating but probably needs referral to a different medical speciality - endocrinology possibly because it is potentially linked to an adrenal gland issue, even hyperthyroid in men can cause it. I take it your liver scans have been clear of untoward lumps and bumps (benign liver adenomas can possibly lead to testosterone rises).
Ask your GP about it and seek further advice and referal.
This is very interesting as also 62 years old in May and with my last fibro scan of 31.7 I have a high testosterone with increase in muscle with no gym etc. I had lost muscle mass over the last 5 years which I think was down to having sarcoidosis. I suffer from fatigue which seems to cycle over a 10 day period. I don’t see my liver consultant until May so looking forward hear if you get any reasons regarding this increase yourself. Good luck. Paul K.
Hi Paul thanks a lot for the reply, I don't suffer any fatigue I can walk 18 holes of golf carrying my clubs no problem, all seems to be reasonably normal but I'll keep you updated over the next few weeks after my appointment, interesting stuff. Cheers.
Hi Paul forgot to reply to you on this. So had my 6 monthly a few weeks ago, fibro gone up to 41.2 a bit disappointing to be honest, still not had a drink since 03/2022. But bloods all perfect but anyway ... Said to the hepto doc about the testosterone his answer " I'm very jealous ," seriously that's what he said , he said " that's a good thing isn't it ,?" So he hasn't got a clue why, Still building muscle mass now have biceps like Garth. So no nearer . All I can say is I'm fit and totally asymptomatic. Hope you ok cheers Taff.
hi, I am interested in any answers for this as a year ago I was also diagnosed with decompensated cirrhosis but was told that if I quit drinking if my liver was to go to compensated it would be within 6 month from quitting drink, but my dec scan should no better no worse 🤷♀️
hi Taffypaul, I believe that my high Fibro results are due to liver inflammation , because my LFT are always good. So I’m trying to look into what can cause this inflammation ie: foods, prescription drugs etc. My first hospital results showing an odd liver was from a liver biopsy in 1994 this was done due to DVT in my leg from flying a lot with work. My testosterone I believe got better after I stopped taking statins which I’d took for 15 years, After reading there’s some connection between colesterol and testosterone. Anyways keep in touch and more importantly get your handicap down to scratch.
