we’ll Covid finally caught me, I have escaped it from day one but this week I have felt so I’ll and now I know why …. My question is how does Covid affect the liver, I know it is the livers job to fight infection and is that still possible with a bad liver, also how does Covid affect the liver, I really do not think my liver needs any more barttering or abuse , does this happen? I guess what I am asking is can Covid make my liver even worse than it was before , thank you for any advice regarding this xx

Hi Sophia, you might be eligible for Covid treatment. You need to get it within the first five days since treating positive. Your GP is probably closed so call 111 nhs.uk/conditions/covid-19/.... I hope you feel better soon x

Hi hun, I have felt bad since Tuesday but only tested today so I could possibly be close to the deadline, I do feel better than I did so I am hoping I can fight it myself as I’m really scared about putting more drugs through my liver, if I feel more improvement tomorrow do you think I will be ok to leave it , thank you for your help xx

Sophia, the guidance for people with liver disease is to be a priority for anti-virals. Original alpha covid gave me chronic liver inflammation. The variants these days are much weaker but it will still take a lot out of you. For my second covid infection I took the anti-virals and it saw it off a lot quicker. It's not a question of "putting them through your liver", it's getting the anti-virals to disrupt the covid. Covid poses more danger to your liver than any supposed risk to your liver (which there is none known). Don't listen to your doubts and fears, and much worse the absolute moronity the internet makes up. Follow the guidance and prioritise getting rid of the more dangerous thing.

I’d agree with Confused One. I looked into which antiviral is the best but cant remember now - oh the brain fog!… I’ll find it and let you know

bmj.com/content/370/bmj.m3379 says for liver patients use Molnupiravir not JAK inhibitors and not Remdesivir. I’m cautious about taking any drugs because of my liver, but I think Covid is the greater risk. I hope this helps.

Sophia, I have liver disease. I’ve had Covid twice. Last time I was given anti virals Paxlovid via NHS as I’m considered compromised. At the time it was via the Covid phone number but I believe it’s changed. The anti virals really helped me.

I’m glad the anti virals helped you, its a lot to deal with otherwise for our poor livers, hope you are all good now xx

I have liver disease and had Covid. Drink plenty, rest but get walks in to keep your body active.

I was prescribed the steroid pack. You will be fine. Keep believing that.

Thank you hun, I am very positive and think to myself it’s just a cold I’ll deal with it, but the not so positive side always worries about my poor liver , hope all is good with you now xx

Hubby had Covid earlier this year - he felt no worse than when he has a bad cold but they still gave him the 5 days of Molnupirivar anti-viral.

He had routine liver bloods done the day after his course finished and they were as is normal for him, nothing massively elevated.

Covid can still be a danger to folks with liver disease

Thank you for your reply Katie , I’m glad your husband was helped by the meds and had normal liver reads after, that is very reassuring to know, I am one of those stupid people that worry about all the meds causing liver issues as well as the Covid itself, so you have given me the confidence to not be so fearful ….. I did call 111 due to your message and the other replies on here and I am now waiting for them to call me back, I really appreciate all your help and everyone else, I would have no idea what I’m supposed to do otherwise, I did not even have any idea these anti virals existed, have a lovely weekend , hope you are doing something nice xx

I had Covid over a year ago - was probably the Omnicron variant. I had a fever (like I always do with a virus - around 102) for one evening and was much better the next day. It lasted just over a day or two. I had been fully vaccinated.

It wasn’t any different from any other virus I had or anything different without liver disease. Just the same.

Have you been vaccinated at all ?

I was prioritised for antivirals but the covid clinic said wait 4 days to see if it improved on its own.It improved and no antivirals were needed.

Good afternoon all, sorry I did not get back to you all regarding the 111 call only my elderly mum came down with Covid and I have been worried and looking after her bless her, 111 did call me back and agreed I would benefit from the anti virus drugs, but unfortunately they only work and deliver mon to fri, as it was now Saturday and I was on my 5th day it was decided that I just keep an eye as by Monday it would be too late for me to use the drug, anyway I have gradually got better each day, I’m still a long way from my normal and still testing positive at day 7 but I’m getting there, thank you all so much for your help , you were all amazing and supportive as always, it means so much xx
