Poorly with Covid

Been up all night with husband ill with fever. Tested him and hes showing positive for Covid.

He has raging fever, sore eyes, pains all over and stomach ache, particuarly under his ribs. He was also looking more jaundice than usual yesterday, and definately more so during the night.

What is the best course of action to get his anti virals now? Do you still have to do pcr?

I think i would like blood tests done too with him looking bad colour. Should we go to GP or just straight up to A and E?

Xx

I’m from another forum normally but came across your post, could you contact 111 for help on what to do next, they may help the decision as to whether to go to A andE. Maybe GP also in morning if no luck. If they happen to say he can’t have antivirals because of liver, they may not say it, you could ask for monoclonal antibody infusion. These are just ideas I’m not medical. Wishing your husband well x

Thank you. I guess ill start with gp as they open in half an hour. He definately needs some help, so if i cant get to see them, we will have to try the other routes. I was just wondering how they act now, as it was a long time ago, before lateral flow tests were available that he was first offered the antiviral treatment.

If he is eligible for anti virals you should register his LFT result online (no need for PCR) someone should contact you re anti virals. You could check local health board website or 111 for further advice.

Hooe he is ok soon.

Thanks ! Will have to be 111 or hospital, just for others to take note. The website doesnt recognise the test barcode because its not NHS one, yet we can't get them anymore 🤷‍♀️

Are you in England? He should still be able to get NHS test kits. When you go on the website to order lateral flow tests it states

"Most people in England can no longer get free COVID-19 tests

You may still be able to get free tests if:

you're eligible for COVID-19 treatments

you're being admitted into hospital

you work in the NHS, or for an independent healthcare provider, or in adult social care

your GP or healthcare professional has recently asked you to get a test"

As a person who is eligible for the covid 19 treatments you should be able to progress on the website and order your test kit.

gov.uk/order-coronavirus-ra...

Not that it matters now that he has it but anyone who has been told they are eligible for the antivirals should still be able to access free NHS test kits - In Scotland carers are also eligible to get kits as I get them regularly for both hubby and I.

All the best, Katie

Yeh, but when my husband tried to order them on his app as usual, it wouldnt let him. Will have to try with the link you put.

Finally got through to GP who have given us a number to ring for anti viral team. Waiting on a consultant call back to assess which ones are best for him.

Also got an ambulance (possibly up to 8 hr wait) so that he can have lft done and advise on paracetamol to get fever down. Will stand it down if we can get hold of anyone to assess him before. He is quite a lot yellower than before, and also tells me his urine has been quite dark and sweet smelling for a bit now. Typical him, not thinking to mention it before now 🙄 he hasnt had bloods done for a bit so i think these need to be checked before he takes any meds.

hi I suggest ringing 111 and order some LF tests from the government website. I too was offered anti viral drugs if I test positive, I get my tests free from the NHS and report my tests. Good luck, try to get your husband to drink plenty and eat little and often, he might be able to take paracetamol for his fever. You could also ring his liver team, I don’t think you should take him into A&E.

May the next few days be more positive for you. It must be very difficult but as the previous form member suggests, I would certainly contact his Liver Team and explain fully the situation. All best wishes.
