my partner recently went through transplant assessment and they flagged high ferritin with high transferrin saturation (not actually sure what this last bit means) and they are requesting a HFE screen. Does anyone have very high iron levels (he is over twice the top end of normal) with no other underlying cause other than cirrhosis?
Thanks

My husband also had this, and was sent for genetic testing for haemochromatosis but was not found to have typical type. However, this seems to have settled down now and nothing more gets mentioned about it.Ewife
Same here, added to my list of concerns for a bit!! It's an interesting one when you look it up, often doesn't affect men until mid life, and often isn't as damaging in women until late in life because of our menstrual cycle. But it's one of those things, once you know you have it, it's not so much a problem because it's easily managed.I'm still thinking of getting my son checked for it at some point in life, because he's very similar make up to my husband.
