I'm due to have a CT scan in a few days and know I won't get results for 1/2 weeks but my jaundice itching all over is driving me crazy day and night and has been for 6 weeks I've been taking cholestyramine for 6 weeks and tried antihistamine but I still itch. Does anyone know if the doctor could give me something to stop this.

Hi,
Do the doctors think that your pruritus ( itching) is related to your gallbladder? I believe from previous posts you are waiting for an operation to remove your gallbladder?
If the jaundice and itching are worsening it is very important to discuss with your own doctors ASAP in case there is inflammation of the gallbladder and you need treatment .
Thank you for your reply. Yes I am waiting for my gallbladder to be removed. I also have a gallstone blocked in the neck of the bile duct and will have to have an ERCP to remove this before my gallbladder removal. So I have a long way to go yet. Which is why I wandered if the doctor can give me something to ease or stop the itching. Cholestyramine is having no effect, any idea how long it takes to work as I've read reviews on how good this is.
It may be worth a call to your doctors to see if your ERCP can be expedited if symptoms are worsening. Unfortunately, we cannot comment on medications but your doctor should know more.
Keep us posted.
I wish I had the answer . I’m the same but postbtransplant
It was the itching and psoriasis that lead to investigations, low platelets decline over 10 years, swollen spleen and then high Liver results scans and then NALFLD plus L1 ,
If bile ducts are blocked this causes it to leak into surrounding areas and leads to jaundice /itching.I take cholestyramine and rifampicin which has worked for me after 20 years of this problem. Stints can be used in blocked bile ducts also. Hope this helps
If the ducts are blocked do they need unblocking or can it be treated with just medication
I have several autoimmune conditions ie SLE, Dermatomyositis, Raynauds, Bronchiectasis, Pulmonary Fibrosis, Arthritis with back and leg problems and Primary Schlerosing Colangitis. As yet I have not had to get stints in which would be next step as disease is progressive and transplant final procedure with no guarantee it would help. The mycophenolate I take may also help. Hope ti's helps you.
Hi, apart from the itching & jaundice, what’s your bowel movements like ie colour & consistency,
