Worrying

Hi I have been having multiple tests since having elevated liver enzymes GGT was >400 and ALT>200. I found out today that I also have smooth muscle antibodies does this mean it’s AIH? I’m waiting for a fibro scan appointment and also more blood results.

I did phone the helpline and the lady was so helpful and advised me to wait until all the pieces of the puzzle are together and I have an actual diagnosis but I’m suppose as night draws closer so has the anxiety 😥.

Is it possible that it could be something else? Can you have smooth muscle antibodies and it could be something else?

Thank you for reading

I guess it’sa game of wait and see at this point, but my understanding is smooth muscle antibodies are the body’s cells attacking it from AIH in this context

My hepatologist told me that a small proportion of the population have smooth muscle antibodies without actually having anything wrong with their liver. As the helpline said it is a bit of a drawn out process of putting various pieces together to get a complete picture. I was diagnosed with AIH after a biopsy and various blood tests. The waiting and worrying got me down. I wish you well.
