My husband use to be a alcoholic and gave up drinking a year ago and he had routine blood tests and his serum alkaline phosphatase has come back high. Anyone had this? I'm really worried he's damaged his liver thank you

If the blood tests have come with bad results, your doctor would have referred him for an ultrasound as soon as possible. So have a little hope Sammy what you have described is the only one part of a liver test. It actually needs about five or six parts of your blood test to be abnormal for you to have problems. Hope that helps

Which part of the blood tests? He had abnormal serum alkaline phosphatase, RBC and esophils ( not sure how to spell it) hopefully all is ok. He has a telephone blood result with a gp on 12th

I hope all is ok as well. i think its eosinophils your referring to. So there's several factors at play...I didn't know that and so I wont even begin to speculate. Twelve days is a long time when your sick with worry, but if he is drink free he has already completed the biggest hurdle to a decent life. I really hope the doc has a plan for going forward and as lockdown will be up and running then, make sure your appointment does not get cancelled. Hopefully you post back with good news soon.

Good morning Sammy114,

May I suggest you ask the doctor to interpret the test results - A one- off elevation in tests does not necessarily lead to a diagnosis - It may require simple monitoring, or further referral.

I have included a link to our website inforamtion on liver tests explained.
