Enlarged fatty liver

Glad I found this group. Thoughts? I had an ultrasound 2 years ago and just reviewed it as we switched insurances and going to new dr. My primary care doctor NEVER mentioned anything to me. Overweight 5.6 female weigh 213. i have dr appt soon. Also ultrasound and cat scan from 2016 of my liver was normal, no findings so this is pretty new.

The liver is normal in contour with increased echogenicity. There is no evidence of solid mass lesion. The liver measures 19.39 cm.

Intrahepatic IVC is patent.

The portal vein is patent with hepatopetal flow.

Just did bloodwork late last week. ALT 45, AST 28 All other labs normal but just above normal BUN/creatinine 27 and Albumin 5.1

Thoughts? and where is liver pain usually, can it be by flank area/my hip bone? I have some lower right abdominal discomfort.

Would love to know your thoughts? Could this still be NAFLD or do you think it is NASH?

Hi Baseball.

No one here is medically trained to diagnose your symptoms. However at the risk of being called judgemental or fat shaming by a minority of members on this forum, l just want to give you some worthwhile advice regarding aches and pains. You have admitted you are over weight so suggest you get a GP referral to see a dietician, preferably 1 liver health qualified. When a person is over weight, that excess weight puts a massive strain on the heart, lungs, joints and muscles causing aches and pains throughout the body which may well be the cause of your pains. Over time if you continue to gain weight you will find it increasingly difficult to breathe and mobility becomes compromised.

If you want to live a long healthy life it needs to start now while you are still mobile because excercise is an essential part of weightloss to keep musles strong and joints flexible throughout life. If not you will have a lifetime of increasing pain, be constantly seeing your doctor for stronger and stronger painkillers which in time will damage your liver. You owe it to yourself to live the best life you càn and look after your body both inside and out.

I wish you every success. There is plenty of support and advice out just grab it and enjoy a fit, healthy painfree life.

Take care and stay safe

Hi Baseball, you might find the British Liver Trust page and publication on Non-Alcohol Related Fatty Liver Disease (NAFLD) useful.

britishlivertrust.org.uk/in...

As your inflammation markers are roughly in range it is more likely to be NAFLD rather than full on NASH since by it's very nature NASH included a degree of inflammation (that's what hepatitis means) and NASH stands for Non-Alcohol Related Steatohepatitis. This is a far more aggressive condition.

With NAFLD some lifestyle changes, weight loss and more exercise you might be able to reduce the enlargement of your liver and get this condition under control before serious damage is done to your liver.

Hello Baseball33,

I can see our very knowledgeable and helpful forum members have given you some excellent suggestions.

It may be worth considering a referral to a hepatologist for full and up to date assessment of your liver health.

I have included a link to the British Liver Trust information on liver tests.

I had an enlarged fatty liver too.

I lost weight and it cleared up.

Keep away from carbs and sugar and alcohol. Google 'paleo diet'. Mediterranean type food is good.
