Hello Gerty60, as you've acknowledged at the stage of fatty liver without fibrosis or cirrhosis this is probably a reversible stage of liver change. I am assuming this is non-alcohol related fatty liver (NAFLD) and if so there probably are steps you can take to make changes to your lifestyle, diet and hopefully reverse this diagnosis. Sadly, fatty liver disease is on the increase greatly in the Western World due to diet, food additives, too much salt, too much of the wrong fats, too much sugar and often insufficient exercise. Some underlying health issues like poorly controlled diabetes or thyroid issues can make folks prone to the condition too. Have a read at the BLT page on NAFLD and see if there is information there that can help you going forward. britishlivertrust.org.uk/li...

The good news is at least you now know you have this issue and can take steps to help your liver - the vast majority of folks with fatty liver don't know about it and the numbers are growing (hence the reason there are so many livers that are rejected for transplant as the donor didn't know their liver was poorly).

Another page you might find useful is the page about Looking after your Liver at:- britishlivertrust.org.uk/li...

Best wishes,

Katie :)

Thank you. I have been told my alt was only slightly raised. Both the woman who did scan and my gp have have said with change in lifestyle I could reverse this.

Eat right, exercise, stay away from anything that can harm your liver and I wager that your next scan will have better news. Fatty liver can turn deadly if not controlled, but if take. care of right can reverse with lifestyle changes.
