Diuretics and Creatinine Levels

I was Aldactone 300mg and Lasix 120mg which controlled my Ascites but caused my Creatinine to rise to 1.53 and BUN 53 so my Doctor reduced Diuretics to 100 / 40 bringing Creatinine back to normal. Now my does is being slowly increased.

Has anyone else experienced this, thanks in advance.

Note I am British Citizen based overseas and this is my first post.

Hi Longan,

Its a pretty common complication with diuretics. They can adversely affect kidney function and a rise is creatinine would be an indication of that. I had a similar issue but for me the levels didn't normalise and they also became ineffective anyway.

It can be a tricky balancing act to get the dose strong enough to clear your fluid but not too strong to upset your kidneys. Its a good sign that with the reduced dose that your levels have normalised. They will though keep an eye on that each time you go to clinic. Hopefully the dose you are on will be sufficient to keep your fluid accumulation to a minimum. If the problems return they may also stop them for a while and restart them when fluid starts to build up again. I did that for a while too.

Hope thats helpful.
