The blood test carried out by the DVLA appointed doctor will be a "carbohydrate deficient transferrin test". You won't be able to hide anything from this test, so even if you've not had a drink of alcohol for a few days this will still show up in the test.
High risk offenders, need to prove that they have learnt their lesson and no longer pose a threat to other road users. There is a very good web page about all this, and it also explains in more detail about the CDT test: drinkdriving.org/cdt-alcoho...
I hope this helps.
Thanks for your reply.
I forgot to add that ive been abstaining from alcohol for the last 5 weeks and will carrying on. The only thing is that im taking codeine and paracetamol and have been for a while does the cdt test pick up on this?
Hi, I'm iñ the middle of my licence being revoked or if I can drive for another year. I'm on a year by year basis. Went for a medical and had a blood test which picks up consumption of alcohol for last 3 months! Plus I'm on heaps of medication. The medical was 16th April and I've heard nothing so I'm thinking the worst. Without my car I'm lost. Good luck as they ask for get readings from gp or specialist.
Best wishes, Julie x
