High GGT & Raised Lymphocytes

Hello all,

Attended GP a couple of months ago re. nasal polyps and was prescribed fluticasone fuorate, which I used for a month until I started with nosebleeds on the affected side. Went back and he asked on other symptoms, which I mentioned a change in bowel habits from once daily to maybe 3 times a day and a constant feeling of bloating in abdomen and quite severe, but short lasting back pain first thing in the morning. I'd used the nasal steroid for a month, but have been off it for a month now also.

He's requested bloods and stool sample and these have come back 24 hours later with elevated LFTs as follows:

Serum total bilirubin level 16 umol/L [0.0 - 17.0]

AST serum level 42 iu/L [0.0 - 40.0]

Serum alanine aminotransferase level 67 iu/L [0.0 - 40.0]

Serum gamma-glutamyl transferase level 155 iu/L [0.0 - 55.0]

Also raised were serum triglycerides (only marginal) and cholesterol/HDL ratio is over 5.

Finally, lymphocyte levels are raised at 5.01 or 58.6% total and erythrocyte sedimentation at 8mm is also over the max reading.

Worryingly, only the raised lymphocytes were flagged as of concern, but I've raised my own worry over the LFTs as I am a non-drinking non-smoker, who has always had a healthy gut and never been troubled by any ill health.

I have a follow up with the GP next week, who I daresay will order further tests and do abdominal exam.

I've no itching, no obvious jaundice (although I am colourblind) and if it were not for the constant bloat and loud tummy noises after food (and lasting almost to the next meal), together with a depressed appetite, then I'm in good health.

As the father of an 18 month old, and a gorgeous wife, I have a lot to live for, and as you can gather, my mind is constantly thinking the worst (liver cancer, pancreatic cancer etc). Any help or suggestions as to questions to ask would be great.

Hi and welcome to our forum.

We appreciate you are worried; however, we do ask in our community guidelines, that members do not post test results. This is because the reported reference ranges vary between different laboratories so it is very important to get safe accurate interpretation from your own doctors.

Unfortunately, no one on the forum is medically qualified to advise you.

We do have a publication 'Liver disease tests explained' that may be helpful to read prior to seeing your GP:
