I am in awe with all the support that I have gotten here! I was diagnosed in the end of July. I had an umbilical hernia, which was a result of my liver being enlarged. When I saw it on paper I knew this was real. My next question is I have been told that if I do too much one day I will be very tired the next day. I am exhausted today and I stayed up a little late last night but no wild parties. Just dinner. In fact, I said no when asked to go back to a friend's house and play board games. I don't need to be around drinking at this point. This was my first sober Christmas and New Year. Last year I got out of rehab on December 31. Back to being tired. Do other people here experience this? Coffee is not helping my situation. Will I be tired often for the rest of my life? I was always tired when I was working. I'm not working at the present and now am wondering if I will be able to work a 9 - 5 day. My days used to start at 5:30 am and I spent a good two hours commuting each way. Another reason I was drinking I thought it gave me energy.

Feeling tired
Tiredness is merely another of our symptoms. Liver can't store energy the same. This is why we must eat well, the good stuff, protein do so little and often include snacks in between 2 to 3 hourly intervals. 🤔
Hello,
Tiredness is indeed a common result of liver disease and it is a very difficult one to cope with as it has such an impact on day to day life. Ofeckman is absolutely right in saying how important diet is. If you have not had the opportunity to be reviewed by a liver specialist dietician then it might help if you can be seen. Sometimes it is a question of adjusting day to day routine so all the important thing get done first in case of exhaustion later but I appreciate that this is easier said than done.
Hopefully you will get some more helpful advice from your fellow forum users.
regards
I didn't know they had liver dieticians. That is a great idea! I do try to eat healthy and take vitamins. They have me on Thiamine and a water pill. I supplement with B12, daily, Biotin etc.
Hi NYer,
Ofecky is right. Constant tiredness is just part of cirrhosis for many of us. I get fed up apologising to people for yawning during conversation, and have to say it's not because I'm bored......although, sometimes I am 😊😊😊
I am many tears retired now, but like you my work involved a 2 hour commute each way, and then a 10 hour stint on the computer. I haven't found an answer to it in the 3 1/2 years since diagnosis.......I just have to do what my body tells me....but if you are still working, unfortunately you can't. I have difficulty in sleeping as well, because of constant capsule pain, so it a double whammy for me.
As Ofecky says, diet can help a bit, and little and often can replenish energy levels during the day.
Sorry there's not a more positive answer for you.

It is positive because I'm not alone. I have passed the biggest hurdle. I am acceptinge this. If I tell you I thought doctors were just trying to scare me to stop me from drinking. That was me. I had to see it on paper in writing!
Your so right. When I got the diagnosis, I was practically booking my plot in the cemetery. I stopped drinking immediately, which I found very easy.....for me it was habit not addiction.....I just wish I was told sooner, then my liver would not have been so bu99ered. For me it was after the fibroscan......there was no denying it then. But we are where we are now, and have to get by as best we can. I was diagnosed 3 1/2 years ago, and have most of the symptoms that cirrhosis brings, and it never lets you forget that it's there. For me the constant capsule pain is the hardest to cope with, caused by my enlarged liver and a spleen that is twice the size it should be, and of course liver friendly painkillers are almost non-existent.
There's loads of help, knowledge and support on this forum, so when you need any, then just call.

My husband unfortunately shares that tired, sleepy symptom although he has more energy than he did.
If you haven't been tested for vitamin deficiencies it might be worth your while doing so as low levels of some might also contribute to your tiredness. Warm wishes.
I just gave more blood! I can't believe the amount of blood I've given between hospitalizations and doctors. Haven't heard the results yet. Which just reminds me as I type I should call the doctors office!
Yep, unfortunately tiredness is one of the annoying symptoms of liver disease that seems to persist. So you are not alone there.
However, good on you on the alcohol side of things. Getting out of such habits is never easy to do, so big 👍on that.
In terms of going back to work, and I suppose lifestyle in general, you may just have to adapt a little to find things and work you can do. You'll probably find the 9-5 bit is the easy bit if you reduce the commute. Travelling is actually really tiring, so its effect shouldn't be underestimated. You'll probably find that you could probably do much of the work you did before as long as you dont have to travel as far to do it.
Good luck
I to have Cirrhosis and I suffer with tiredness on a daily basis.
