Flu Jab isn't as effective in Cirrhotics

Had my flu jab today and according to my doctor it is not as effective in people with cirrhosis but still a good measure to take to reduce the effects of influenza. Apparently the uptake by our immune system is compromised but he emphasized that it is still important for us to get the jab. Wishing you all a sniffle free winter season.

Cheers, Canada Liz

Hmm that’s interesting Liz, I was never told anything like that!

But I did have one of the two types of flu jabs, not sure which one. I forgot to tell then I was on immunosuppressants! Ah well it doesn’t seem to really matter from what I have read and I’m still here 😁.

Hi Miles,

Not to be a nag - well -yes I wonder if nagging is my superpower?? Hmm.

Anyway back to you and my nag - if you are on immunosuppressants [?] Paul's liver Dr. says to get the flu shot, but now that he is headed for chemo - the suggestion is check what type of shot you are getting - if live virus -No, if dead virus - maybe.

So if your immune system might be iffy - check with doc first And always let them know!!! ]

The longer we get your postings the happier we are!!

So Nag Nag Nag - at least let whoever is giving the shots know what is going on with you - Before you get the shot!!!!!!

Love,

Mary

Evening Mary

I don’t mind being nagged 😁. I think I have had a lot of experience of being nagged - oh wash my mouth out in case either my wife or daughter read this. 😁. Only joking they will never read this, perhaps lol.

Can hardly get my wife interested in anything I tell her about what’s going on in this site but, I think, actually I’m positive, that this is due to her being all “stressed out” with anything to do with my health after the last 5 yukky years 👎🏻. Which I understand completely.

As for my daughter hmm not so convinced - I reckon she would have a good old read of this if she found the site open on my laptop. She waltzed into out bedroom unannounced a couple of weeks ago as I was changing and in the nuddy! I said you want to careful, daughter dear, that you don’t see something you ought not (she’s 40 😁). She said Dad if you think I haven’t seen you in all sorts of states of dress before think again! Think about all those times at the Hospital when you were in a state of nothingness with HE and you were quite happy wearing nothing and widdling where you shouldn’t have been widdling! What is a man supposed to say in response to that!

What happened re the flu jab - phew, got to answering at last 😁 - is that I went to the doctors two hours earlier than I should have because I wanted to go with my wife at the time she was allocated. Because it was horrendously busy with patients patiently 😁 waiting in the line it was a sort of semi - naughty queue jumping. Because of this they didn’t have time to check all my details.....So my fault entirely. 👎🏻.

I don’t think you’ll be happy to always get my postings after this meandering epistle......

Nite nite Mary. Hope you are both doing OK. Been on any more jaunts recently?

Sat in my van chuckling miles, thinking back to a day when I apparently had a nasty he bout and dropped all sorts of bodily matters around the place. One unhappy partner and I’m not sure the a and e staff were much happier when I got there!!!

I bet they weren’t! Apparently I started taking all the posters off the walls in the Evaluation Ward one lively HE episode. I was a vandal for some unknown reason! Possibly they had some info about HE on the posters that I disagreed with.... 👎🏻.

Miles,

I will always be happy to get your postings - the meandering ones are always wonderful 2nd only to snarky ones :-)

Glad [?] to hear that being nagged at is not a novel experience for you<giggle> My Dad probably had the same experiences given a wife & 2 daughters. I on the other hand deal with a husband & 2 sons - the silent treatment was more usual a few decades ago - nagging has replaced it - I'm voting for a return to the silent treatment - I get to yell when they do that - all I can do when they nag is hang my head & say I'll not do it [?] again of course there is the possibility of crossed fingers behind the back - mine not theirs.

HE has the most interesting impact. Now while you were widdling where you should not have been did you widdle your daughter something nice? like a swan in a bar of soap or find a nice piece of wood - maybe from the trim work of your room - and widdle her a nice Great Horned Owl for her nightstand? There really is no good reply other than hanging the head low to one's daughter who has seen you widdling Ha!

Anyone who has not tried to semi-naughtily jump the line is possibly just too full of ethics to be much fun, tho I have met a few who still manage to be great fun.

We are doing well - Paul started his first round of chemo today - after me getting a call asking where he was as he was due there at 9am & here it was 9:51 am, and him at his chiropractor's. Well suh, we never got the call about his chemo appt - Can he get there by 11 - I don't know but I'll call and if he can he will LOL He made it and didn't get home til 4:30 pm, but 1st day of 4 rounds of chemo completed with instructions on no exchange of bodily fluids -huh- for 46 hours?? not 48???. Anyway he is in better spirits thanks to a chat with cancer ctr social worker regarding the wonderful support system he has - a bow from me and invisible ones from the sons, and rest of the family & great neighbors,.

On that note - I'll say nitey nite, sweet dreams, don't let the bed bugs bite!

Take care & "talk" to you soon.

Interesting reading. I had the flu jab and 2 weeks later I had a cough, aching limbs and felt feverish. It lasted a couple of days so maybe it is not so effective but better than full blown flu

Interesting, l wasn't told that either. My hepatologist really encouraged me to get it though, so l have for the past few years. My arm really hurt this time, for four whole days. I hope it was worth it.

I hope it was worth it for you Bootandall, and for all of us. I have doubts about it sometimes. There never seems much evidence when someone dies with flu who had the vaccine, what was the actual cause of death or why the vaccine didn't prevent the flu.

Me too, my arm hurt and there was a plum sized lump for four weeks. Last year I had no cause for complaint.

Haven't had it this year due to a continual cold since the start of October. My immune system gives rent-free protective custody to all unfriendly bacteria and only goes to work attacking my liver.

I best have breakfast and 2 minutes in the UVB light before I get any gloomier! :-)
