Saw my GP the other day and she said it would be a good idea to have my flu jab there and then, so I had it. Few days later I feel like sh*t, blocked nose, cough, generally feeling so much worse than before. Is it possible to get the flu or flu-like symptoms after you've had it? Oh and I think it's time to stop driving as I tried to put my car in reverse earlier and drive it whilst the engine was off.... taking lactulose 5 times a day but it's not doing it, the HE is constant now... tempted to buy Rifaxamin online (found somewhere to buy without prescription, although costly! ) if my consultant doesn't give me an appointment, becoming a joke now.

You can't catch the flu from your vaccine as the adult one in the UK is a non live vaccine. It's more likely that you picked up a bug from other patients waiting at doctors surgery than from your flu jag - it can make you feel a bit washed out though.
These HE type symptoms you are getting with a zero cirrhosis diagnosis are weird and you'd like to think there was some urgency in getting you seen.
Thanks Katie, didn't realise that regarding flu jab, must just be unlucky and caught it elsewhere, probably my son as he catches all sorts from nursery. Going to speak to consultants secretary again in the morning. No messing about now.. scared isn't the word, i feel so distant from everything.. almost like a numb feeling.. hard to explain.
the old flu jab often gave flu like problems but the new one does not but i think it takes a bit of time before it works for you so before it does you are still at risk
would not worry too much about the car when my wife could not go she went totally off her tree it puts toxins in your body that confuse the brain when you start working right again will all pass
I agree with the flue comments
With regards to driving I would stop immediately your comments on here would mean you would not be insured as you know you may be unfit to drive.
Not great news I know but its a risk
David
I have tried putting the car in re erse without starting it before. I dont have HE . It's more of a 100 things circling my mind at once and we all do things like that when stressed and mentally distracted which is understandable with having this disease on our minds every mi utw and hour of every day
Thanks for replies all, got through the gastro's secretary and she has managed to get me an appointment with him on the 11th Dec. Can't even remember what I had to eat most days, and something that happened this morning can feel like it happened days ago. No memory, confusion with wrong words etc and feeling vacant. Hopefully he will get that ammonia test done and get me on some sort of treatment with rifaxamin!
Thanks again for replies, I do appreciate it.
Good afternoon,
I see you have managed to get an appointment with your consultant on 11th December - well done ! Frustrating as your wait to see a consultant has been it would be unwise to try and access Rifaxamin over the internet. You cannot be sure that what you will receive is the real thing. Also, David 5354's comment about not driving is absolutely correct.
I have a flu jab every year. Twice it made me ill for over a week. I mentioned it to the nurse. She said that it does happen but she didn't why.
Hi ktan49,
Regarding the flu shot - have had many and while I do know one can't get the flu from them, I occasionally get mild flu like symptoms later in the day or day after I have gotten the shot - I just figure it has a strain I've not been exposed to - I have not gotten actually ill from a flu shot though. I would be inclined to agree with those who have said you were exposed to someone with the illness and it is not related to the shot, especially since it was a few days later.
Sorry to hear about the HE, my husband takes lactulose twice a day, but has said it doesn't have the bowel movement results it is supposed to, he doesn't have significant HE symptoms - so that question is on our list for his next visit to his liver doctor in January.
Hope you get an appointment soon with your consultant.
As soon as my husband was diagnosed with HE he was told you should not be driving as no insurance if you have an accident also had to let DVLA and insurance ok now x
Thank goodness you have an appointment, I do hope you get some answers. I agree with David it would be best to stop driving. Personally, I would not tell the DVLA at this stage as it can be a complete nightmare getting your license back. GPs and consultants do not as a matter of course report to the DVLA. I would suggest, you tell them you have taken the decision not to drive. Give your car keys to someone else to avoid the temptation to drive, you can always cancel your insurance. Make sure you tell friends and family so they can help and support you.
Thank you for your reply. Yeah I'll give up the driving for now, i can't even walk around the supermarket without feeling so dizzy and like I'm.goimg to pass out. Horrible feeling. I'm hoping this can all be controlled with rifaxamin! Anyone else had an ammonia test and how lo h did you wait.for results?
