Look OK but be very unwell?

Hello,

Sorry to return. I have had some days of feeling quite good, odd niggles, but nothing too much. Then I have had some days of feeling awful,

Yesterday was an example.......started off OK, as day wore on got terrible feelings of nausea, then the discomfort in my right side, but then gradually the pain in the back - bra line right next to my spine, right side, This was the worse I have ever experienced this, it was like a red hot poker was lodged there. Took a nexium with little help, It eases a tad if I get up and move about, and generally if I lie down but when I went to bed it was like the whole of the right side of my back was in spasm. Won't take any painkillers as I don't want to take anything that could be toxic to the liver. Heart burn, belching +++, a constant churning in my belly, and discomfort in my side through and round to my back.

Not got much of an appetite with the pain but ate some roast pork and veg late on, drank lots of water / squash

I think I look reasonable......other than looking quite frightened /depressed, although I think my eyes are discoloured - reddish and yellowish. My husband is losing patience because he says they look fine, but I just don't think he knows what he is looking at. I look in the mirror and see it, but I am blind as a bat so not easy lol! I took photos on my phone so I could look closer - and they don't look discoloured but that could be the photo quality.

My GP appointment is 9th November - it is a Saturday and 3 days later than the one I had originally managed to get - but it is MY GP rather than just a GP at the practice, who I like and trust and has seen be cry about these types of things before. Also it is a Saturday appointment so you get 15 mins instead of 10, and the waiting room is never full when you leave so I don't feel ashamed walking through.

I am so sorry about coming back to you. I do believe that my anxiety is contributing to all of these, but I don't believe it is contributing to the intense level of pain and discomfort. I am continuing with eating low carb, and trying not to have much fat - when I originally started this way of eating it was low carb high fat, but I am cutting down considerably the butter, cheese, cream, but just allow myself 1 coffee with cream daily. I have lost 9 out of the 84lbs that I need to lose, so far. I am on day 27 without alcohol, which I know to be the root of my problems.

Is there anything else that I can do whilst I wait for my GP appointment? I am sorry to bother you again. Hope you all are comfortable and have a nice weekend x

Hi

I'm so sorry you are in so much pain. I certainly know how you feel. My liver is very enlarged which stretches the capsule around it which causes the pain. You do really need to take something for the pain and also ask your Dr to put you on something. I know if I didn't take any pain relief I wouldn't be able to get out if bed cos of my many conditions causing me pain. Please take care of yourself Lynne

Good afternoon DL1962,

Sorry to hear you are not feeling so well.

If you have acute pain or new symptoms it is important to seek medical advice.

Whilst waiting for your appointment, it is important to take care of yourself - remaining abstinent and eating a healthy diet are a big part of that.

It may also be useful to keep a food and symptom diary - you may find trends apear which may help you and your doctors with a management plan.

I have included links to appropriate publications form the British Liver Trust which may be useful
