It is elevated but not scarily so. A repeat test is a good idea then further investigation if it continues to be high.

hi thanks for the reply. i thought up to 40 was like normal so when mine was 65 i thought it was high and started to worry and cant speak to my doctor yet as there too busy so have a to wait a few weeks.

It is high but like I said - not scarily so. GGT elevation in to the many 100's would signal alarm bells. Repeat bloods and further follow up if it remains high or goes higher.

hello moomin 51. This may make you feel a little better. I recieved my latest results, for bloods and ultrasound. My bilirubin was high, and wait for it my gamma gt is 395. So from my perspective i wouldn't worry to much about yours being 65....although I know we worry. Ive not drank in over 3years...good diet, walk several miles aday. My consultant wants to see me in clinic,so awaiting an appointment. At least you have repeat bloods in 2 months time....so you can see where your at then. Try not to worry. Take care. Chris

hi you can definitely get it down it is only a little high. In November mine was 551 by May I got it down to 130 and in august it’s back to 50. Good diet exercise and no alcohol. Lots of herbal tea. Good luck with the next test 😉

in reply toKbws

thanks kbws, looking at making a slight change to my diet as from today. i try and exercise every other day and hardly drink alcohol. herbal tea has never been my thing, recently changed to decaf tea bags...🤔

- You are, at worst just in the "slightly" high area - and just barely, by a few points assuming you are over 50 years of age. A few weeks of healthy living should get you back in the right place (but note of course I am not a doctor and make no assurances). You should be fine, take care of yourself!

morning what do you suggest helps get this down ? Mine was high and I have now been diagnosed with NAFLD - but would like to get it down if possible ? Thankyou x

The BLT website has a page dedicated to NAFLD which has really useful guidance on treating the condition and thereby reducing numbers. There is a fairly new downloadable publication too which is brilliant "Treating NAFLD with a Healthy Diet & Physical Exercise".

hi all I can say is what I did and it wasn’t drastic. I avoided all white potatoes rice and pasta. So when I cooked for my husband i altered my dishes I had my bolognaise over asparagus. Made my lasagna with aubergine. A shepherds pie I would put turnip ontop. A curry I had chickpeas with it. Cooking a roast dinner I just had extra veg but would make cauliflower cheese so it was a treat. I rarely ate bread but had a rivita instead. I limited fruit but added berries at breakfast as long as I had protein too. I batch cooked steel cut/pinhead oats and would freeze it so I only had to cook it once a month. In the porridge I would add hemp chia and flax seeds and portion it out so I had no excuses going to work what to have for a snack. I drank a lot of hibiscus and rose hip tea. I let it go cold and drink it’s through the day. Plenty avocados and salmon. Home made soup in winter. I managed to loose 4 st which really improved my cholesterol and liver. If you look up Mediterranean diets there’s some good ideas. Hope that helps 😊 oh and exercise!!

it just slightly elevated. To compare my was 450 before URSO, but no liver damages.

please don’t panic, it’s only raised a bit and one test in isolation doesn’t mean anything especially as GGT is no longer classified as an accurate liver enzyme. Get your bloods repeated in 2 months. Good luck

funnily enough I got routine blood results yesterday and my liver enzymes were 120 so I’m having repeat test in 3 months. I have been drinking alcohol but only just over the nhs limit. I’m going to stop alcohol and eat more healthy and fingers crossed it goes down.
