A few weeks ago I developed painless jaundice with no itch, urine very dark, nausea. Following blood tests showing very high Bilirubin levels I was admitted to hospital. Ultrasound, CT scan, numerous blood tests and Liver Biopsy showed a very inflamed liver but no known cause (e.g. no infection or blockage) - I don't drink. Bilirubin levels and jaundice are now subsiding without medication. I've attempted to identify all the medication I was taking weeks and months before I became ill and checking the contents on Google with known causes of liver damage. One particular item , a medicated shampoo set alarm bells ringing. This is an anti-dandruff shampoo called Nizoral with the active anti-fungal ingredient "ketoconazole". There appears to be numerous case studies showing my symptoms to a T. Although the case studies describe patients who took the drug orally I wonder if it is possible to absorb the chemical through the scalp especially since I had some sores on my head at the time. Could be a red-herring but I would be interested if anyone had had similar experiences. Ref: livertox.nih.gov/Ketoconazo...
