Hi there. I hope everyone is as well as they can be.

Following repeated ascitic drains my hubbys stomach muscles are aching post drain.

I know this may sound daft but would a support be any good? Like a baby maternity support etc.

Also has anyone found anything to stop the itching. Thanks in advance x

Hi Snips71 the wife and I found if we had what we thought was a good idea we just went ahead and tried it, what can you lose but the money it cost and what is that compared to the comfort and relief hubby will get.🤷🏻‍♂️ But sorry except E45 cream or Aloe Vera (pure Aloe) I just rubbed gently or tried to ignore it, it just drives you insane. Good luck to you and hubby. 💕

Stay safe All

Hi Dave.

That’s true. Thank you for replying.

Itching is a bugger. The only thing has helped a bit is 1.25ml of oromorph.

Take care too Dave x

The 'itch' that goes along with elevated bilirubin is maddening and scratching it can lead to infection risk.

Has your husband not been prescribed anything for it? Treatments are hit and miss but common ones that seem to get mentioned are various antihistimines (fexofenadine), Cholestyramine (a powder that gets added to food, drink). Some people find cooling, menthol rubs, cold water baths or flannels may help. Ursodeoxycholic acid (usually prescribed to PBC patients with bile duct issues).

Make sure the consultants know of the issue and see if there is something they can offer.

Hi Katie

Thank you for replying

He’s on the cooling cream and has tried antihistamines. The only thing that has helped slighting is 1.25mls of oromorph.

I will ask about the other meds too.

Thanks Suzie

Has he been tried on rifampicin for itching? Only thing that gave a semblance of relief while I was rocking bilirubin levels high enough to make the simpsons blush
