Lymphatic Drainage Massage

G0newiththealc0hol profile image

Hi Hope all are ok.

I recently had a massage and the masseur saw I hat a lot of water retention (not specifically one place but the usual stomach and legs) and did Lymphatic Drainage Massage.

I was in pain and unable to eat heavier foods afterwards.

I have ARLD/Cirrhosis.

Are the a bad idea or will they help if I keep going? Does anybody have any insight?

Also, apart from putting my legs up, I do like to exercise and I'm relatively fit, so are there any exercises I can do to help me get rid of the water? I am trying to drink more which I'm not very good at.

Thanks

Hazel

I've been told to drink more. My hands get stiff/spasamy so I know I am dehydrated and after the massage I bloated more around my stomach so took water tablets but they didn't help!

Thanks

Hazel

I was on a fluid restriction of 1500 mls a day pre transplant. Very low salt. Yes you do have to stay well hydrated, but I think I’d ask the Dr’s for some clarification and also ask about the diuretics. Perhaps a dietitian to advise. One of the nurses kept insisting that the little high protein drinks was fluid, however the dietitian said they were not🤷‍♀️. My kidneys also couldn’t tolerate the diuretics so i ended up having lots of drains (paracentisis).

I have read before that some types of deep tissue massage aren't appropriate for cirrhosis. I would check with your liver specialist before having another.
