Has anyone with a partner with cirrhosis noticed any change to that person's voice. My partner's voice seems to have got quite weak and I'm trying to figure out what's going on?
Voice change.: Has anyone with a partner... - British Liver Trust
Voice change.
Yes it becomes higher pitched, croaky and weaker. Don't know if it's all part of the illness or the medication though.
Yes my husband spoke very quietly. Changed right back to normal volume after his liver transplant x
Hi Catcher, I have Cirrhosis and I have found that my voice changed. I used to sing quite a lot, and even if I do say so myself I could hold a tune and my range was reasonably good. I had an attempted transplant and for the last 2 years I have really struggled. Like everything else I have had to keep excercising my vocal chords and slowly but surely things are beginning to get stronger. Even my talking voice underwent some changes and when I get tired can sound weak. I think it goes with the territory but can’t offer any medical reason why.

Hi
Yes mine became slurred and week as well. Not really sure why but came back to normal after the transplant
Mine is still weak and slurred when tired. I had a very bad bout of HE though at operation and have very slight brain damage. Going to speech therapist
My husbands voice has changed, and sometimes quite slurry, I'm always asking him to repeat himself.x
One of my son's said I was slurring my words, I've got Nash. I am also extremely tired . Love and hugs Lynne xxxx
Thanks to everyone for replying, it really helps.
My speech was slurred, and I swore a lot. Pesky HE!
Hi, as the others have said some people experience voice changess in my case I had to point out to people on the phone that I was a man. Not ideal for an actor. I think it was the cirrhosis as it remained like that when I was taken off all meds . After my transplant my voice returned to normal although I still have the extra breast tissue that developed due to spironolactone. Just happy to be alive.
My husband also had breast tissue develop with the use of spironolactone. Our regular doctor did not know of this side effect, and sent us to a different doctor who suggest breast surgery to remove it. We had an appt with his liver doctor who immediately took him off it and said of course that is what happens on spironolactone. Wish this was more well known so spironolactone would not be prescribed so quickly, as this side effect has a bad emotional impact for men.
Wishing you the best.
Mary
Same here Mary. I grew several very painful nipples on my boobies. I looked like a tragic drag queen for a while. But all went back to normal when they stopped the spironolactone. I’m back to my normal butch self lol.
My husbands voice has changed, sometimes I find it hard to understand what he's saying.x
I currently have voice problems (weak, no volume not able to sing as range has totally gone) I am undergoing speech therapy having had more sinister causes ruled out; The hospital thinks it is due to nerve damage following a bad viral infection last year and will improve over time.
Earlier this year I was diagnosed with NAFLD with cirrhosis and reading the above posts it has got me wondering. I will be printing out these posts and taking it to my speech therapy on my next session my GP has never heard of this link and the liver specialist haven't mentioned anything so possibly further research is needed.
Apparently I slur my speech sometimes and people say I mumble. Sometime I try and compensate for this and it comes across shouty and slurred. I’m never anywhere in the middle.
