Feeling sorry for myself

I've always eaten a healthy diet. Food cooked from scratch virtually every day. We never had takeaways or fast food. I've never smoked and don't drink. ( I sound like a real barrel of laughs don't I?) I had graves disease when I was 32, which is in autoimmune condition and am type 2 diabetic. As were my grandmother, uncle and mother. I was taking steroids which caused my diabetes to go into overdrive and I had to start using insulin. In January this year I went low carb. I lost 2 and a half stone and ceased using insulin. It seems unfair that I've now got cirrhosis.

Sorry for the self centred post but I'm at a really low place at the moment. Deb

Hi

I think we all feel like that at times. Have you ever thought of Counselling? It's helped me tremendously. Please take care. Love and hugs Lynne xxxc

I agree with Lynne, counselling could really help you. It doesn’t have to cost a fortune either. You certainly didn’t misbehave like I did, but Cirrhosis in itself is a manageable condition. Talking about our feelings can help us get things in perspective and just having someone who is prepared to listen can make a huge difference. Drop me a message if you want help in finding someone and I will see if I can help.

I feel the same way. I don't have cirrhosis but I have stage 1 fibrosis. I don't have thyroid and I'm prediabetic. In retrospect, I may have gotten it from vitamin A which I took a lot of because it kept my acne under control.

I was drinking socially but not often and not a lot. I was usually the designated driver. I had been in an abusive relationship with an alcoholic in my 20s and really hated alcohol for a long time.

So now I have fibrosis? With all the people I know that drink so much, how do I have the jacked liver? And if you tell someone the assume you're an alcoholic or have Hepatitis.

Since my diagnosis I've gotten very strict with my eating. Fresh bitter greens and beets every day. Two meals a day with small portions of grilled meat. Mostly chicken. No alcohol, ever. In the USA all our foods and products are contaminated. All food had additives like corn syrup which is the same as alcohol minus the buzz. Our meats are horrible, the cows here are fed corn, candy and hormones to fatten them up faster for quicker sales. It's very hard to eat healthy. No processed foods and even our whole food is tampered with. My government allows corporations to poison me for profit.

Anyway, sorry about the rant. I'm just saying I understand how you feel. You've tried to live well and yet you find yourself in this situation. It's extremely frustrating. All I can say is keep up the good work with your diet and hopefully in time there will be some improvement.

Sorry that you're in this position too. I'm worried that with brexit we will only have the USA to trade with and I really don't want your food. It's as you said it's poison. I don't want my grandchildren to have to eat such poor quality food.

If that happens try to look for locally grown food. That's what I do here. And I can't always find grass fed meats and local veggies but I can at least eat whole food. I don't eat anything processed. Nothing with corn syrup. I read labels. Even if you end up trading only with us you can make better food choices.

Hi, So sorry to hear about this - just not fair!

Have they said what has caused the cirrhosis? Is it by any chance autoimmune?

It's just that there are some sites on 'Health Unlocked' that might be more specific for you, plus I'm sure there will be a Group on here specifically for Graves, as well as for Diabetes … as I've found it's always so good to talk to others in the same boat.

Hope this helps, also - easier said than done, I know - but do try to treat yourself and have lots of fun, doing the things you love. There's nothing better for fighting any kind of condition.

Take care, Gritty.

I've had numerous blood tests but when I saw the specialist on Tuesday he said a test for autoimmune was requested but the lab declined it! I've found such helpful, caring people on this site. I'd be lost without it. Deb

Very sorry to say it but you are one of lifes unlucky people I used to smoke drank 60 pints a week am now 52 and have no medical problems at all I might be one of lifes lucky people.

I know that does not make you feel any better but i do feel very sorry for you, the only way to look up, is to think it would not have mattered what i done this would have happend,

I know it is not easy but do whatever the hospital tells you to do try and be strong and not let it get you down, if you get down things only get worse.

We are all here to give you support when you need it keep fighting

Dave

Hi Deb,

We hope you continue to find support from our brilliant members on the forum. Additionally, we would suggest you think about counselling and also maybe a local support group?

The British Liver Trust do have a list of support groups and are always looking to expand and have more. Also, don't forget to ask your medical team if they are aware of any support groups in the hospital or your area.

You are not alone, we are all here for you,

Take care
