Hi. I'm 36 years old, and just found out that I have to remove by surgery my gallbladder becouse of gallstones.
I'm concerned couse in my last blood test, the levels of transaminaze is very high ALT 582 u/l and AST 201 u/l. In other hand my liver is normal, in shape and size.
Wondering if this high levels might be caused by my gallbladder disfunction or maybe smth else I should worry about

My sister is exactly the same as you, she has a meeting with her surgeon on 4 June.
She has gallbladder problems. So much pain i feel for her, her bilirubin, liver enzymes were very high, and she also has dark urine and chalky stools . Sounds to me that your both in the same situation,..i would hope that things will settle down post surgry? I wished i could help you but we wondering the same.
Best person to ask is your consultant..Best wishes Linda
Yes, gallbladder can cause high ALT and AST. You need to see a specialist and get some tests like a HIDA scan for the gallbladder, maybe a fibroscan, ultrasound, ect to rule out liver conditions. The best thing to do is establish a trend with blood work, if it's high for a while, that's more of an indication of a serious problem than a one time spike. However, your enzymes are way above the upper limit of normal, you for sure need to see a specialist. Fatty liver can also cause these enzymes to spike, Auto-Immune Hepatitis, biliary issues, plenty of possibilities that need to be explored and checked off the list one by one.
