Please could we remind you that this forum does not take the place of medical advice. In this respect the British Liver Trust asks that users do NOT post any test results or ask for specific comment on such. Test results vary according to both the individual’s whole health and the laboratory analysing the results and should therefore always be interpreted by the users own doctors.
As I am sure you are well aware, several things - including alcohol- can cause a rise in GGT and you should certainly discuss your results with your doctors who will be able to advise you on how to improve your results.
I think the obvious answer to your question is you need to stop drinking permenantly or you will continue to have health issues which will only worsen over time.
Timmy, you don,t say why after 2 yrs you started drinking again... did it just feel safe?. Obviously your liver has really been irratated, the good news is you stopped before and can again☺Ha ve you tried a support group such as AA? They have online groups apparently for people unable to get to meetings. Don,t give up trying to give up. There are other groups etc and methods to help quit if AA isn,t your cup of tea. The internet or youtube are a good place to start and hopefully those numers should return to normal, best wishes. m.b.
Hi Timmy8. I did what you did. I didn't drink for 1.5 years and my levels were back to normal. I drank a few times a month ago and my GGT went up to 185 last week. I stopped again, but, am angry with myself. It was like for just a brief period I could remember how my thinking seemed more focused and real when I drank. I will never drink again. I read where caffeine is helpful to the liver, so, I drank an energy drink a couple of days this week, which helped with focus and clarity of thought. Let me know if you have the same experience. I encourage you too to commit and promise to never drink again.
