Hi my name is Sharon in 35 I've been diagnosed with a rear liver desise auto immune hepatitis/ with over lap primary biliary cirrhosis. I don't work as I've been my sons career he has asd / ADHD my husband works on a low wadge. I went to the pharmacy to collect my medicine and she said that will cost me £25. Somthing I didn't have the money so I had to leave my medication there. I'm not able to afford this. Am I entitled to free or discounted. As I don't work I also don't get any money in my own right. If some one could give me some information I will be truly grateful as I'm not getting the medication I need. Kind regards Sharon.

Have a look at the NHS low earnings scheme - if your husbands earnings are below the threshold you should be able to get help with prescription fees. Details at:- nhs.uk/NHSEngland/Healthcos...

Or you could buy a pre-payment certificate which costs £104 per year and covers an unlimited number of prescription items. You can pay this by direct debit at £2 per week. Details at:- nhs.uk/NHSEngland/Healthcos...

Going without your medication for AIH/PBC is not an option.

Have a look at the options above and see what you could afford to do.

Hope you get it sorted a.s.a.p.

p.s. as regards not getting any income in your own right, is your son on a benefit like PIP, DLA? You should be able to claim carers allowance if you care for him over a specified number of hours. More information at :- gov.uk/carers-allowance If you struggle with the paperwork your local Citizen's Advice Bureau and or council welfare rights office should be able to help you fill in the necessary forms.

Check my update too, regarding carers allowance. You might be entitled to that.

As soon as he gets PIP apply for carers allowance. Fingers crossed you get all sorted but in the interim apply for a pre-payment certficate for your own meds - you can not go without or you'll be in trouble along the line.

All the best to you.

Always here to help, we are in the very fortunate position of living in Scotland so hubbies 7 different items on prescription are free for us. Ridiculous the amount per item you are charged in England and sad that people go without essential meds due to financial issues. Hopefully the PPC will be affordable for you and yours and you go and get your meds soon - I think your pharmacist should have advised you about the PPC rather than let you go away without your medication.

Keep on board the forum for more support and help along the way.

My hubby has cirrhosis due to AIH, sadly only diagnosed once it had reached that stage and wasn't identified or treated before. His AIH is now deemed to be inactive but it has left him with significant liver damage before coming to light.

Wishing you the very best of luck.

Get an HC1 form from post office, pharmacy or an optician. You will be assessed on income grounds and will receive either an HC2 or HC3. The best outcome is an HC2 which not only gives help with prescriptions, but eye tests, dental treatment, travel to and from hospital and a couple of other things too. Send it off in the pre-paid envelope and you should get a reply within 2 weeks.🤞🌈 Is valid for 12 months and covers your partner too.

Hi. Also if you haven’t done so already transfer your tax allowance to your husbands - I think you should be able to do it online. It’ll bring another few hundred £££s into to the annual household. Good luck x

It might be worth going to Citizen's Advice or your local council welfare rights department to do a benefits asssessment to see what you might be entitled to - you normally need to take income and expenditure information and they work out if there is any benefit you might be entitled to apply for in order to 'top up' your family income. Many benefits provide gateway routes to other benefits too.

You could go to citizens advice they would be able to tell you the forms you need and may be able to help you fill them in.
