Hi there i am a 45 yr old lady and been recently informed by my GP that i have a fatty liver, after some blood tests revealed that so, and was referred for ultra scan which again showed up my liver.
I dont drink alcohol, so its non alcohol related.
I am worried, and concerned, my GP has referred me to a liver specialist, hopefully i get seen before xmas.
A great many people in the western world suffer from fatty liver and it is good that your doctor has picked this up and is referring you on to a specialist. Too many doctors let patients go away with the message "it's just fatty liver" without advice on what they can do to tackle it.
You might want to have a read on the British Liver Trust page about Non-Alcohol Related Fatty Liver Disease (NAFLD) britishlivertrust.org.uk/li... and see if there are any lifestyle issues you might alter to give your liver a chance of recovery. Too many of us exercise too little, eat too much processed foods, too much fat, sugar and salt. Some medicines and if you already have diabetes can contribute to NAFLD.
Anyway have a look at the page for advice and tips on what you might be able to do and hopefully doctors will put you on the right path for looking after your liver going forward.
Thank you so much Katie. I have downloaded the Trust page about Non Alcohol related fatty liver disease. I am not thank goodness a diabetic, early detection. Its only because i said to my GP that i was getting these tiredness and like Chronic Pain Fatigue and asked for a referral, but my GP wanted to carry out comprehensive blood tests, and luckily that's what the blood test results showed, liver and since then i have had the scan. Actually my GP is vague and very calm and casual, but she is referring me where necessary.
But i need some answers as i too was very laid back and my partner is worried and we both anxious.
That's really interesting that you are being referred. I too am a non drinker with a fatty liver. I do have Gilbert's Syndrome though. I'm a normal weight, exercise and eat relatively healthily. My doctor doesn't seem to think a fatty liver is an issue because it's mild and has said most people over 35 have some fat in their liver. I'm thinking now I'd like to know what's going on. I get pain in liver area and itching but assumed this was from high bilirubin from the Gilbert's. Would be lovely if you keep us updated, really interested to know how you get onxx
Hi remmy. I've been diagnosed with the same and have been recommended to go on the 8 week blood sugar diet. I know it's not polite to ask a lady her weight but as you have already told us your age (!) I wondered where you are on the BMI?
Hi Remmy, I had the same Fatty liver condition about 2 years ago. I don't drink but I was obese so I am sure this resulted from my obesity condition. Consulted with Liver doc but really it was a complete lifestyle change which got me off this condition. At that time, I was 103KG for a 5.6ft 35years male, with diet change (to a low carb diet) and introduction of exercise (5km jogging 4 or 5 times weekly), I was able to achieve a weight reduction to 82Kg within 6-8months. Consequently, my blood tests show that I have been completely healed of fatty liver disease.... I advise you consider lifestyle change if you need to.
