Hi Sally, absolutely not just caused by alcohol. Diet plays a huge part, junk food.....fatty takeaways, too much salt and sugar in ready meals, cakes, crisps, biscuits, pork pies, sausage rolls etc etc . Ditch the above if this sounds familiar.

You need to be eating lean white meats, fresh fruit and vegetables, oats, nuts, a balanced diet of good carbohydrates and proteins plus exercise daily. Adopt a healthy eating plan (continue to be a non drinker) and you can reverse your fatty liver, allowing it to recover will mean it can to continue to carry out the 500 functions it needs to do to keep your body healthy

Good luck

Laura

Great, yes just cut out all those naughty bits and you will be fine. Once your liver has repaired probably 6 to 8 weeks or so, continue with the new diet and way of life and the odd " treat " wont cause you any probs. The problem is fatty, salty and sweet food can be very addictive so just be aware and ask yourself "Do l really want it ? "

Take care

Sally I never drank either, there are plenty of us with None Alcohol liver disease. As Laura says in our cases possibly our prior lifestyle with rubbish foods, drug related from other illness, or as my consultant said it could be inherited 🤪. Do try to stick with a healthy diet, and you will start to feel the benefits.

By the way my consultant also said on my last consultation which was very good in that my liver was doing a good job working well. Also bloods were now well within normal range with the exception of jaundice which was slightly elevated. So he said that I deserved a treat ,have a portion of chips 🍟 on your way home 🤣. Only one problem I hate potatoes 🥔 oops 😬 so he said what do you like then?My rapid response was pork pie or sausage roll, go for it he said. I had a small sausage roll !. If I’m truthful I didn’t enjoy it as I thought I would. Really quite happy with my new found dietary changes, that in itself is a treat. All my friends say when are you going to write a cook book 📖!!.

Good luck chrissie 👌

Hi Sally - there is a specific condition called Non Alcohol Related Fatty Liver Disease (NAFLD). It is the fastest rising liver health condition in the western world - now far outstripping alcohol related liver disease. You will find information and lifestyle advice on the British Liver Trust website. britishlivertrust.org.uk/in...

If your liver is still only at the fatty stage and hasn't progressed much further then hopefully you can get control on it now you know about it and hopefully be able to reverse any damage.

All the best, Katie

hi there and welcome-I was chatting to my GP just the other day and he said any fat around the middle will evidence as fatty liver so weight a big factor. As Laura and Katie say-work on the diet and exercise and it should help.

Hi

My liver disease was caused by meds from my drs over the years. Hope you improve very soon. Love and hugs Lynne xxxx

Hi Sally,

We are pleased to read that you've had such helpful replies to this thread.

We would suggest that you clarify diagnosis with your own doctor.

If you are in the UK and do have a diagnosis of Non-Alcohol Related Fatty liver disease (NAFLD) the latest national guidelines from NICE and the British society of Gastroenterologists ( BSG) highlight the need for an assessment of liver fibrosis ( stiffening/scarring) risk in patients with NAFLD.

In NAFLD, the recommended test by the BSG is to calculate a Fib-4 score. This is a blood test and the BSG have guidelines to help GP's interpret the test.

We would therefore suggest you could discuss this with your own GP who should be able to facilitate a Fib-4 score blood test for you to assess any fibrosis in your liver.

You can also call our nurse led helpline Monday to Friday 10am to 3pm on 0800 652 7330

Warm wishes
