Itching

Has anyone found anything that helps Itching without doing any more damage to the liver?

Can't sleep most nights and scratch myself raw daily. Nothing seems to help! I take anti-histamines but I am trying to restrain from using them so no further damage is caused.

Hi taggiem ; I can so relate to how you feel .I too have the same but not as bad as it was in the heatwave we had .well antihistamines were given to me by my doctor but I did not take them as I was very wary about more liver damage .plus I was only allowed a small dose .

I went and bought some e45 itching cream and left it in the fridge

I used that untill I saw my hepetologist .I had been told about a certain powder you can be prescribed by hospital called questran .it worked well for me !

Hi

I'm on fexofenadine 180mg but the powder sounds even better, I will ask my consultant next time I see him. Xxxx

Hello,

I have bouts of itching too, I am on cetirizine (10mg) but I only take it when I feel I must - a couple of times a week perhaps. I do also use e45 which soothes things post-itching but not heard of this powder or the fexofenadine either. I am on warfarin so itching really is bad as I tend to bleed easier - I may ask about these things when I see my consultant next! Is it proven that antihistamines can have a negative impact on the liver? It's not something I've read about.

I'm not sure I will have to find out xxxx

It looks to me like "auto correct" may have intervened. I believe that the drug used to control itching is Questran. It is only available on prescription in the UK.

Happens all the time to me. Most usually when I text the children or wife though.

Only thing helped me was getting my liver enzymes back down to normal. Itching means the enzyme levels are too high.... or in my case anyway.
