And Another Thing....

Monday 12th June saw me with a trip to London to see my ever lovely Hepatologist, he always seems to be shadowed by young Italian/Spanish ladies doing student exchanges....anyway, MRI and appointment - 4 new lesions/tumours (22 now) and LFT's all show my liver is doing an ok job! So all is good really....however I have more fluid in my legs with advice to keep them elevated as often as I can - this resulted in rude comments from both my sisters and my fella!! lol This isn't really an option - I drive a lot and sit at a desk. So they have decided to increase my Furosemide. Which obviously I'm not too happy about but it is what it is.

So the MRI also showed my spleen at 25cm - even the DR was surprised it had grown the size it has because the Chemo tablets I am on are meant to help reduce it's size....so far it has increased by 7.5cm in 3.5 years - opps!

Anyway - I have very little room for food which is annoying my family, I get there annoyance but if the food doesn't fit, I'm not going to eat it....and if I'm not hungry then well that's that really! Which this happens more often than not. You'd think I'd have lost weight...no no no - 2KG I put on in a week - I am a personal trainer, before DX I used to run, a lot, this weight gain is breaking me!

My question is food - what can I eat that is going to make my family happier? I really struggle with this food thing - never have in my life before - I actively encourage people to eat! lol...Ideas on a postcard for very, very small but make the mother happy meals - low carb, no salt, high protein.....

I hope your all keeping out of trouble!

Haribo do the best eggs. Cherries too. Even a nice bottle of coke to wash it all down with. It's a whole meal in a bag.

I've got a tape measure, where do I measure for this spleen off?

Chelle_ profile image
Chelle_ā€¢ in reply toIdentity75

Ha. I have no idea. I can feel mine on the surface I can feel where it dips. It's only meant to be 8cm. It's not just a symptom of my liver disease it's a symptom of my blood cancer. It's been getting gradually bigger over the past few years.

Mines enlarged, its called splenomegaly, I had to google it as it was in a letter from my consultant, why they could just put your I'll see you in 3 months, that would have been simpler! To measure take the mean distance of the equinox between Pluto and Venus and subtract two cola bottles and a sprig of thyme, then bingo there's your answer. This is basically the end of all sense I have totally lost it, take me down to the paradise city I'm ready!! šŸ˜œšŸ˜œšŸ˜œšŸ¤£

That is hilarious Dulux -- - your sense of humour is in simpatico to mine šŸ˜‚

On a serious note my advice would be to ask at your next Consultation to be shown how to measure it and draw a line above and below the tape measure with a permanent marker- it helps to make sure you measure the same place each time

However, I think Dulux' s reply is much better šŸ˜ŠšŸ˜Š

Kind regard

I'm currently stood with a pen drawing my spleen on with a smiley face, is that what you mean??

It is so tempting to do a dotted line with the words insert liver here! I might do that for my next consultation, would that help with my position on the list.......?

This sounds about right for the elite club of the 'you don't need to know, it's only your body' club.

Meds I am on for other problems have piled weight on me - anymore and I'll be as tall lying down as i am standing up, and I'm 5' 8''!

I can't eat a full meal so my meal is served on a side plate to get the point across. My specialist told me to graze if I can't eat a meal and I tend to do that now. I try to be healthy about it but some sinful foods occasionally materialise in my hand and, well it would be rude not toafter they went to such trouble.

I have no advice on diet as you can see but I am happy to wave the flag of the No Thanks I'm Full Republic at your family if you like

šŸ½šŸ½ < our flag is simple ... just a couple of empty plates with cutlery

New citizens welcome

On a serious note, brings me out in a cold sweat, a nice baked Parmesan crusted chicken breast is pretty damn healthy and tasty too.

Chicken and Parmesan both high in protein. Baked so not drenched in oils and fats. Parmesan would probably add enough of a salty taste to avoids adding any extra. Serve with some steamed broccoli for that extra protein punch.

Jobs a good un.

And then Haribo EGGS, more protein, for afters.

I'm not sure if I like your tone 'on a serious note' sounds very serious!

But on a serious note, I have greek yoghurt and one generous handful (ohhh errr) is a mighty does of the ol protein. I think mixing protein sources is a good idea, be it from nuts/meat/other proteiny things!

I try to be serious once every hundred years. Glad I got it out the way to be honest. All downhill from here on in.

Are you sure the weight gain isn't fluid? Before I went to hospital I gained 3 stone over about 4 months. Me and my other half used to joke that the less I ate the more weight I put on, and it was true. When I was hospitalised I was put on diuretics, and lost 3 stone in 2 weeks.

No I didn't like the niteworks but used to take the ex-cal before being in hospital last years - I actually felt the best of my life when I was on it as a constant! Being a PT it worked well with my training and that of my clients! Thank you...you may have just given me the boost I need! x

Herbalife has been in my life for 30 years (1st heard about it in Portsmouth)..so many health results...through these years..and once again when I have the shock of discovering Hep C..with the blessing of my consultant and my own research into the liver, I realise how extremely lucky I am to have the Herbalife products. They are the best!!! X

Just curious who's your lovely hep? Is it nhs or private? I've been on waiting list for ages for nhs hep.

Oh I am with an NHS hepatologist, at Kings. I have been for a few years. I was referred when all my problems were found. How come your still waiting?

ā€¢ in reply toChelle_

Long story. I was referred to wrong hepatologist who only deals in viral. Then paperwork in rejection box for ages. It's only because I chased things up that I found out I was in limbo in rejection box. Now referred to Royal Free first week sept. I have normal lft's. But pruritis, severe sicca, severe fatigue. They've ruled out primary Sjogren's but secondary likely, but secondary to what? AMA 360. Haven't had AMA2 test yet.

Not what you're looking for?
