Hi linz..possibly could be.. but hard to tell from the pic..i have one or two small spiders..they are red spots of blood that have branches that look like spiders legs coming from the centre.

Spiders can be seen in people that have cirrhosis but also people that are healthy..they are harmless but unsightly if you have them on parts of the body that can be seen.

Thanks I read having more than 3 is most likely due to liver. I'm really worried

I'd very strongly recommend you stop using the internet to look these things up and refer to your doctor. I don't think you're helping yourself.

Do you have a liver condition?..if not i wouldn't worry too much about them...if you do then maybe go to your doctor just to get them checked out.

I feel like I do but 3 blood tests and 2 ultrasounds besides bilirubin show normal homogeneous smooth liver but I know ultrasound isn't a good tool for cirrhosis

"but I know ultrasound isn't a good tool for cirrhosis"

This is completely inaccurate.

I have a lot of symptoms

ballie52 profile image

linz if you have normal liver function tests and ultra sounds it's unlikely that you have a liver condition...i wouldn't worry too much about the spots..they could be anything..my advice is go to your GP to get peace of mind. X

I think my anxiety gets the best of me I've had a bruised feeling in my right quadrant for a year and it's not my gallbladder and was worried when my bilirubin was raised. I would feel OK if I knew blood tests and ultrasound definitely showed nothing is wrong but read with cirrhosis labs and ultrasound can be normal

ballie52 profile image
ballie52

Most people with cirrhosis linz have abnormal blood tests..it is the first indication of cirrhosis when blood tests become abnormal. .don't worry so much..i think anxiety is causing you to feel a lot of the symptoms your having.

Just not sure about the bilirubin

An ultrasound would definitely show cirrhosis - never heard of anyone with cirrhosis not have it show up on ultrasound. With results saying you have a smooth liver it is highly unlikely. Every single one of my hubbies ultrasounds have seen his cirrhosis and it is described in terms such as shrivelled, shrunken, course echo texture - I detailed all of them in a recent post for someone else who was more or less convincing themselves of a cirrhotic liver despite a multitude of doctors telling them otherwise.

Also from the very poor image you've shown it doesn't appear to be a spider naevi of which my hubby with chronic cirrhosis has one possibly two at most - his really look like a red spider with lots of 'legs' coming out of a very red central body.

Your problems are almost certainly not with your liver and this situation with yourself has been going on for a long time now.

With clear ultrasounds and next to normal blood results you almost certainly do not have cirrhosis - that is not to say your pain in that region doesn't exist but there are other conditions which cause abdominal pains & unless your bilirubin count is excessively high then that isn't an indicator of much since I understand it can rise and fall in all of us, all the time.

Please seek some help for your anxiety issues because stress itself can be a causal factor in abdominal issues - since my hubby got ill I have had exploratory tests for chronic lower abdominal pain and stuff and docs and I are pretty convinced i've got some irritable bowel symptoms due to the stress of coping with all that we are.

Wishing you the very best,

Katie x

Thanks Katie I am on some other support sites and I have seen people say they have cirrhosis with normal labs. A few people have also said cirrhosis was missed on an ultrasound and than seen on a CT or they had a biopsy done

Most people who buy lottery tickets don't win the jackpot.

In fact almost everyone who buys a lottery ticket and almost everyone who has ever bought a lottery ticket has not won the jackpot.

Nearly everyone with normal blood results and a clear ultrasound doesn't have cirrhosis.

Unless you've got some actual evidence to the contrary, doctors and therefore the medically unqualified people on this site with experience of liver disease will tell you that normal blood results and clear ultrasound tests indicate a lack of liver disease.

Ultrasound is actually pretty good for spotting cirrhosis - especially in combination with other evidence.

It may be an idea for you to consider asking the people on the sites you're referring to how they were actually diagnosed with cirrhosis.

Whatever the issue is, unless you have some idea of how to proceed now you may be better off looking into what's causing the anxiety and the relentless focus on unlikely liver problems.

Alternatively perhaps you should get a CT scan but remember the radiation is not good for you and may raise your risk of getting cancer. Additionally it is possible to get an allergic reaction to contrast dye (I did - to my surprise) and that can be very dangerous.

Best of luck.

PS - Most spider nevi are unrelated to liver issues.

looks like sun damage to me

Yes the freckles are sun damage bur the red spots that blanch when being pressed

in reply tobriccolone

Exactly what I thought xx hubby had several but were on his chest - they didn't even look at his arms - he also has several on his face 😓😓 x

When I left hospital my gp said I had loads of permanent spiders on my body and face. Every single one has gone and I think they were just spots or caused from the pressure of me constantly vomiting

RodeoJoe profile image

Very unlikely to be.

You need to take all these issues to your GP. Red palms, sore side, red spots etc.

There's basically no convincing you that you're not ill is there? You need to explain this to your GP, tell him you are CONVINCED you are ill. It must be making your life hell.

linzenilss22 profile image
linzenilss22 in reply toRodeoJoe

Yeah I guess it's hard to convince me otherwise. If I didn't have this right quadrant pain and all these other symptoms that seem to have happened all at once and this raised bilirubin I probably wouldn't me going through this. I appreciate people taking time to answer all my questions

RodeoJoe profile image
RodeoJoe in reply tolinzenilss22

You have raised bilirubin. I missed that, how high is it?

linzenilss22 profile image
linzenilss22

When I went to the hospital it was 1.8 normal range is up to I think 1.2. 2 weeks later had it redone it was down to 1.3 with direct being .2. Had my gallbladder checked and it's not that

RodeoJoe profile image
RodeoJoe in reply tolinzenilss22

In the uk it's normally measured as a number that would be under 21 for normal. Are you in the UK?

linzenilss22 profile image

No the US but u found this site very helpful

linzenilss22 profile image
linzenilss22

Thunk it's 30 in UK

RodeoJoe profile image
RodeoJoe

ok, yes higher than normal. But normal now? I think you can have temporary raised bilirubin due to drinking and virus but I think it would stay raised if it was liver damage.

Hello xx I may be wrong (and I am sure someone will correct me 😆) but Billi can often be raised if problem with gallbladder/gallstones ?? That would cause discomfort also 😥😥😥

In my husbands case - chronic fatigue was the first symptom he had - I don't mean a bit tired - he was falling asleep everytime he sat down !!! At all times of the day - then followed by nausea and bowel problems 😓😓😓

Please try not to worry about having cirrhosis - unless you have drank heavily for long periods of time or have Hep C - try and feel happy that your results are ok - it is definitely something you wouldn't want to have 😘😘❤️❤️❤️

Thanks robs wife. I drank heavily for 3 years and socially before that. I am a woman and I know they can get it faster. I've had all these unpleasant symptoms a lot of them march liver problems. I had a hidascan and my gallbladder is working normally. Did your husband's spider agniomaso look like that?

in reply tolinzenilss22

No - not at all - that looks like sun damage - hubby's were a definite red dot with small veins coming off around xx yours looks much more like damage from sunbathing/being in the sun - I am quite fair and I have several over my arms (also ex nurse) and I am not in the slightest bit worried about them xx
