Spider Angioma

I have NAFLD and will be seeing my GP for routine LFT's etc. in a few months time.

In the meantime a red spidery blob has appeared on my chest which appears to be

a spider angioma. I have read that these can be a symptom of poor liver function

and wonder if any of you folks out there have them, and if I am likely to get more.

Thanks in advance CMGY

I would show it to your GP but they may not be able to make any useful comments. When do you next see a specialist, as a hepatologist would be better placed to say whether its a concern or not as part of your diagnosis.

These red spots are classically a sign of liver disease related to, so I've been told, portal hypertension. I've got lots (10+) over my trunk and have had some as long as I can remember. It's worth mentioning when you go for your consultation. I did but they raised little concern as it was already known I had liver disease. Good luck, Phil

According to Merck Manuals, they are vascular and can be caused by drinking alcohol. My GI doc also confirmed this. I have 4 or 5, ironically they only appeared AFTER I quit drinking

Thanks for your feed back. If they multiply I will mention it to the doc.
