A quick run but a slow one

Having damaged myself following an over enthusiastic first run in my new shoes, resulting in pain for about 5 days, I decided that this morning would be safe for me to try a very short run - NRC's 15 minute run.

Chose my route carefully. There's nowhere flat but there are some roads where the undulations are gentler so off I went. A couple of minutes walking to the top of the slope, then started running down, keeping speed under control.

Ran up and down gradients to the end of the concreted road, turned back, then up the road where we're staying. With about 4 minutes left to go I could have run down a slope but decided instead to turn up the side road until it flattened out. This would give me another down slope on the final run home.

The run ended right outside where we're staying but I went a little further so I could have a short walk afterwards. I covered 1.56 km so an average pace 10 mins/km, pleased with that, I didn't want to overdo it.

Now to wait and see whether I've done myself any further damage.

How gorgeous! What a place to run!

So sending you some healing / strengthening / shoe-softening vibes so that your feet-shoes issues disappear and your runs are pain free!

Hope you have some alternative shoes with you?

Thanks for the good vibes CBDB , 24 hours on everything seems ok😁I don't think the shoes were the cause, apart from being so comfortable I forgot to go slowly 😂 I hadn't run for a couple of weeks and it's very hilly here.

I'm just going to make sure I consciously take it easier on future runs until I'm able to run regularly on flat terrain.

Good run and great that you didn't knacker yourself further!

That’s a stunning location. I’ve got envy.,,I was running on a large, flat area of concrete this morning. I’d take undulations for your view!

Sorry about the niggles. So frustrating. Hope things are settling now?

It really is lovely here, and the route I took went upwards instead of down to the sea so the view was really stunning. I don't get much opportunity to run on hills, a view like this makes up for the gradients.

Thankfully the aches seem to have subsided 🤞🤞🤞

I realise your post is 12 days old, but I’m slow to read posts. That looks a lovely place to run. I’ve noticed others have commented. Is it Spain?

Glad the niggles have gone. Mine are improving gradually and am looking forward to our next trip, probably to the Alsace region where I can resume scenic runs again. 👍

Hi Vragtes good to know I'm not the only slow replier :)

It's Greece, the island of Aegina, about an hour's ferry ride from Athens. A view like this is even better when you live somewhere flat like I do!

Enjoy Alsace :)

Ah, Greece! How lovely. We had a splendid trip to the Peloponnese in our motorhome in 2017. Spent five weeks there but it was before I’d started jogging. May return next May. It’s too hot later in the year. South Western Crete was our favourite destination for many years. Kalimera! 🙂👍

Beautiful place to run, fingers crossed you haven't hurt yourself, glad you can get out again though

It took me a few days to recover from the previous run but after this one everything was fine. The damage was caused by going too fast on gradients when I hadn't run for a while. I think if it had only been 2 of the 3 I'd have been ok. Note to self: I'm no longer a spring chicken I'm an old hen whose batteries could do with replacing 😂😂🐥🐔
