I turned 50 this year and feeling like I needed to get fitter and challenge myself a bit I started the C25K with a thought that if it went well I might see if I can do 10K. C25K went ok and I managed to do the extra runs on the app and went for it and entered the Run Bournemouth 10K. It felt like a long way in the future but the weeks slipped by as I followed the Magic 60 plan but holidays and an injury meant I didn't quite get to the end. I did feel I could probably manage the race run walking and that would be OK. Race day yesterday - cold start but hazy sun and a beautiful view. Favourite playlist on and I made it all the way round - no stopping, no walking and a little bit left for a (nearly) sprint finish!! Would absolutely recommend the Run Bournemouth event- lovely flat route along the promenade with the sea always in view. If I can go from struggling in the early weeks of C25K to 10k, really anyone can. (Sorry I went on a bit there!!)
I did it!!: I turned 50 this year and feeling... - Bridge to 10K
I did it!!
That’s absolutely fantastic news! Massive congratulations to you. What a run and what an achievement! There’s something absolutely magic about events in getting you across the line when you’re not sure you can. I hope you’re wearing your medal with pride!
Have you thought about how you’re going to continue running? It’s common to have a bit of a low after an event and sometimes having a little bit of a plan helps me out. If you’d like a virtual badge, let us know and one of us will sort you out with one…

Well done again! This finish line is the start line of something new!!
Congratulations to you and very well done for completing your first 10K event. Really well done. I started running a few years ago and also turned 50 this year. I set myself a goal to run 50 parkruns in a year. Just ran number 40 on Saturday morning, so 10 more to go.
Well done! 10km is a distance most runners can work up to, and a half marathon can be done without special training. That's why a lot of mass participation races (eg. Great North Run) are at those distances.
My suggestion is that you gradually work yourself up to being able to run 10km regularly, and then set your sights on something a little longer (time permitting).
