Hello Everyone and happy weekend. Today is parkrun day, a free 5K event which takes place every Saturday morning all around the world. It is for everyone, slow, fast, able, disabled, big, small and everyone in between. Oh and don't forget about the super Mum's and Dad's who push their babies in buggies. You can walk, jog, run, run/walk, it's not a race, just a run in the park and loads of us here on Bridge to 10K do it religiously every Saturday morning.
Some of us may not be able to do a parkrun at the moment so until parkrun returns fully for everyone some of us will continue to take part on our own in a Virtual parkrun every Saturday morning called a (not)parkrun. Or if you are away on Holidays, prefer to run on your own, or do not have a parkrun close by you a (not)parkrun is perfect, please feel free to join in. Please post a little run report after your parkrun or (not)parkrun and let everyone know how you got on. The little run report can be done over a post parkrun coffee and treat/cake. (parkrun is all about the after run coffee and cake, and meeting friends old and new).
If you are a new graduate and would like to start, all you have to do is run, walk or jog at a parkrun or a 5K run/jog/walk (not)parkrun anytime today or tomorrow and write a little run report under this post. It's like a little community and it is good fun, sets you up nicely for the weekend. If you want to you can register on the parkrun website and you can log your 5K (not)parkrun. In fact you can log any 5K done during the week as a (not)parkrun.
For anyone whom has not done a real parkrun yet and if it is available to you, give it a try. It is the most wonderful community event. Saturday mornings will never be the same again.
Looking forward to hearing from all of you who ran in real proper parkruns and (not)parkruns. Happy running and have a lovely weekend.

Never happened to me before. I must have been very tired as I slept it out this morning only waking up at 9:15. Ah well, I'll have to fit in a (not)parkrun over the weekend.
Haha, you must have been tired! I'm chuffed because I've done my first (not) parkrun in months. My time wasn't too bad either, but I've recently discovered the joys of interval running so that's kept my fitness up. I don't think I'm ready to face a real parkrun yet, but hopefully this 5k will be the first of many.
Well done on getting your first (not)parkrun in ages done. You could absolutely do a parkrun. You can start off by walking and and then build it up each week.
Yesterday, I looked at the forecast with Storm Antonio coming in and decided to volunteer as number checker instead of running. So was in full waterproofs. Funny how we had less than 300 runners compared to last week’s 492! Well done to all the volunteers.
I’ve had a busy week; we’re hosting a BBQ (probably an indoor one) this afternoon, and I really didn’t fancy running this morning. Jenny at a wedding breakfast, so no incentive to go out at all really. The weather certainly wasn’t helping 💦💦💦
So imagine how I happy was that I ran Eastville PR! I’ve been soooo lax with my running of late and now it’s boot camp time. Back to the hills. Raining, not cold, but hard work. Slow time, but ran the lot and felt righteous.
Now home to get ready for a herd of choir friends to descend on the house. One thing is for sure, I won’t be running tomorrow. 😅
It did thanks Dexy5 . Mr Cheeky was our chef as usual (it’s an annual thing we do) and the rest of us all sang a lot! Fortunately the rain held off and we were able to wrap up (really? In August?) and be out in the garden .😀
I don’t know why our official pacers don’t use their watches but if you start complaining about the volunteers you are just told to come back next week for a free run🤣
No 2 son excuse for not hitting the correct pace “but there was no one behind me Mum”
Good afternoon Damien, I was tailwalker for the first time at Dunfermline parkrun today, but I wasn't last, my walking time was 58:42 but two walkers who must have started as much as five minutes after the RD said 3-2-1 go completed their walk 5 minutes after I finished, they must have started late as I was last person at least for the first two laps of the three lap course to be told on the 3rd lap by a marshall that there are two people behind you , I looked back and didn't see anyone and told the RD when I finished that one of the marshalls told me that I wasn't last, I held back to see if anyone was coming but no one came and the RD thanked me for being the tailwalker and was going to close down, however,, when I got home there WERE two people, five minutes later, both first timers who must have started well after the 321 go at the start,.
I had a chatty run, catching up with how people I know are getting on.
And after went to a large café that currently do the best chocolate brownies in town and had a parkrun 'core team' briefing. We discussed background stuff that allows participants to turn up and have fun in the (not) sun. 🌧️☔💦
Food bank donation day this morning at Lakeside and despite only having 195 finishers (lowest for 3 months), there was a good response to support local families during the summer holidays.
The rain was light to start with and I thought we might get away with it - but 20 mins in, down it came! However my continued jeffing is paying dividends and my time had improved by 30+ seconds to 35.24 from a fortnight ago - stamina definitely increasing! 😀
Horizontal rain at times today at Southampton parkrun and very low numbers - ‘only’ 589. I did enjoy it though, chatting to people and getting home quickly for a hot shower. Looking forward to next Saturday being a bit less wet 🤞🏼🤣
Nice weather - for ducks. Parkrun #66 for me today. Every 2 months the venue where I go to has a pacer run where volunteers wear bibs with numbers on them indicating the time you are aiming for. The pacer run was today. The organisers sent out a message to say they were concentrating on getting marshals for the event rather than sorting out pacers and so they were leaving it until just before the run for those interested in pacing to volunteer. I've never done this before and it was a last minute decision (about 3 minutes before the start) to pick up a bib and become a pacer.
I don't know if it was foolish but I picked a time that was quite ambitious - one I knew I could run on a good day but not a foregone conclusion. But since it was pouring with rain I thought I wanted something to encourage me to keep moving and stay warm.
And so we started. All seemed to go OK and in the end I finished within one second of the target time (the timekeepers said I was 0.8 seconds over) so I was happy with that.
You should give it a go and see what happens. On my watch I had displayed my current pace and my average page and that helped me know if I was running at the right speed.
I logged my Monday NRC run as my (not) parkrun because this morning we had an early start to set up the parkrun in the rain. I stayed to do the First Timer Welcome then went home (via the bacon butty shop) before heading to the monthly village market to join my Ukulele pals, in the rain.We were under a gazebo and the rain did clear later. We raised nearly £150 for the Alzheimer's Society which was a bit disappointing but there were not many people around today.
I did my first treadmill run on holiday. I did not enjoy it. I wish I had a treadmill today. It was absolutely throwing it down this morning. Annoying as I can't run tomorrow as I am giving blood (and I have postponed it due to illness enough times!)
My not parkrun was the usual of late. Not been running now in nearly four weeks due to Achilles tendonitis. I'm seeing a physiotherapist and should be back to running soon. I had completed C25k and was consolidating and preparing for my first parkrun and then got the injury. I have really missed running and can't wait to get back to it. Because of the break though, I am wondering about starting again at the beginning. So it's going to be a wile yet, but it IS going to happen!
Haven’t posted on here before although I volunteer every week. This week was GRIM! Rain started at 9 and by the time we’d finished we were all absolutely drenched. I was scanning so we stood under trees for shelter (purely psychological) and even the runners were saying it was cold. I needed help to push the button to unlock my car as my hands were so cold. My feet were wet as my trousers were saturated so the rain just ran into my (short) wellies. This is not a report from February that I delayed sending. It’s AUGUST! Will I be there next week? Of course. 😆
